Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

So, the official term for the dusting of half the universe is the Snap.
Should the official term for the undusting of half the universe be the Snapback?
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub. It's a shame Steve didn't get to be the one wearing the Infinity Gauntlet for that event. He could have been Snapback Cap.

Which ticks me off. It has "deci-" right in it. That means tenth!!

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Language evolves and that word is almost never used etymologically correctly anymore.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersOn Thanos's playlist: Thanos looks like he sings Frank Sinatra's "My Way" to himself a lot.
"Regrets, I've had a few / But then again, too few to mention. / I Did What I Had to Do / And saw it through, without exemption."

"All you Fascists bound to lose."I don’t believe they ever call it Decimation (which was originally used in the comics for Wanda’s no more mutants and also etymologically incorrect in that instance) but they do say Snap a lot so sticking with Snap is only appropriate.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersLanguage evolves, yes, but when it's something as blatant as a word that uses a numerical prefix being used in a context with the wrong number, that's just silly and inconsistent.
That would be like if we all decided that the word "four" can refer to either 4, 5, or 97.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Yeah, it's dumb. Blame the Romans fiddling with their calendar too much. The numerical shift is the result of moving the beginning of the new year from March to January.
I would love if we all collectively agreed to fix the names of September through December, but that's obviously never gonna happen.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!Frankly, if we're going to fix the calendar, we can start by fixing the ungodly mess that is the day-per-month pattern.
For the most part, the months follow an alternating 31-30 pattern. That makes sense. What's weird is that the pattern stutters in July. July and August are a 31-31 repeat before kicking the pattern off again with 30 in September and 31 in October. Then the pattern stutters again from December to January; another 31-31 moment to reset the original pattern.
Why the record scratch, Romans? The answer is that the stutter is needed to account for the extra day created by February's combo-breaker of being a 28-day month. But why do we need to account for that? Why can't February just have 29 days instead? Then the pattern could continue unabated.
31 days for odd months. 30 days for even months. All year long. With the exception of February, which is burdened by only having its appropriate 30-day length on leap years but still otherwise follows suit as an even month.
This would make remembering how many days are in a month so much simpler. HOW LONG IS AUGUST? Well, it's month 8, so August is 30 days. BAM. No need to account for the mid-year stutter.

No, that really happened once.
