Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

The Battle of New York and the Fall of Hydra are my two favourite events in the MCU exactly because that are the two where we saw most of the fall-out outside the movies. That's why I hope that we will get some exploration of the fallout of Infinity War SOMEWHERE.

Black Widow movie updates:
- The movie is apparently starting production.
- And earlier, David Harbour (aka Sheriff Hopper and the Hellboy that REALLY tried but failed) confirmed that, yeah, he's coming to the MCU, but did he just hint at a certain clobbering member of Marvel's First Family?
Random question, has Ben Grimm been anything before becoming The Thing? Special ops, black ops, bodyguard?

I strongly doubt that the Fantastic Four will appear this shortly after gaining the rights.
This song needs more love.I would love a Spidey / Johnny Storm movie. They could go up against Beetle.
Come to think of it, Beetle would be a pretty interesting enemy for MCU Spidey, given that the modern day appearances of the character(s) have them as basically a weaker, evil Iron Man powers wise. Plus it would be a nice lead-in to another character who'd be great for the Thunderbolts.
And - come to think of it even more - if they use the Janice Lincoln version of Beetle (composite her with Abner Jenkins, basically), that would also give us an in to use Tombstone.

I highly doubt that David Harbour is playing Ben Grimm. For one thing, he's definitely going to be in the movie more than a cameo and I don't think the MCU would introduce Ben before all of the other FF. Second, they had the Black Widow movie in preproduction before the Fox merger was complete.
I mean, I can definitely see him as Ben Grimm, but I doubt he is.
rollin' on dubs
The problem with a Fantastic Four movie - say "Fantastic Four" to Joe and Jane moviegoer and most will think about the crapfest that was Fan4stic a.k.a Fantastic Four 2015.
It's too soon IMHO, the public needs to have some breathing room and then we should get one done good and proper by the MCU.
I tried to walk like an Egyptian and now I need to see a Cairo practor....I mean it'll be another five years at least before we even get that far. I doubt anyone will care about Fant4stic by that point.
Heck I'd be surprised if the average moviegoing audience even cares about it now.

This song needs more love.Spider-Man was brought in only two years after The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and I don't see many people singing it's praises nowadays.
Yeah I know, the situation with the Fantastic Four is a completely different beast to what happened with Spider-Man. Spider-Man actually had a few good films before he joined the MCU, and is easily the most popular and well-known character from Marvel Comics. The Fantastic Four in the mean time have had three (technically four) films that have all been critically panned, and while they still popular, have definitely had trouble leaving an impact outside of comics for a long time. Not helped by the lack of promotion for the team in the past decade, and I can understand why it might take them a while to be integrated back into the MCU.
It'd still be easier than trying to bring the X-Men back in, that's for sure.
The rumors that the 616 Ultimates will be adapted makes me suspect that Marvel intends them to occupy the niche of the Fantastic Four, for now, since they roughly occupy the same slot of "family-ish team on cosmic adventures, tangles with science, and Galactus", while Marvel waits for the stink of Fant4stic to fade away.

The 616 Ultimates weren't a family, though, they were more like a think tank. They even broke up due to Civil War II and only got back together because Eternity needed them.
It would be silly to have the 616 Ultimates replace the FF since Marvel just got the rights to the FF back. I could see the 616 Ultimates taking on the role of the Guardians of the Galaxy though — something more like Cosmic Avengers, while the FF take on the "family of superheroes that explores the multiverse" stuff.

That's one of the awesome things about AOS's first season crossover — it's actually two sides of one story. We can see it from the Team Coulson's perspective first and then Cap's or Cap's perspective first and then Team Coulson and both make sense. It's pretty much the first of its kind.
Although I wish they did the same with Age of Ultron and Civil War, I totally understand why they couldn't. The first season of AOS was stymied by the fact that they couldn't even mention Hydra and the whole season seemed to spin its wheels until several episodes before the crossover. And due to the fact that, well, SHIELD no longer existed in the movies, they couldn't pull off similar feats.
