Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

This week on the rumor mill: Marvel is considering three ways to establish Deadpool in the MCU.
They are:
- A new solo movie, potentially Deadpool 3
- A limited series on Disney+
- As a guest star in the third MCU!Spider-Man solo movie
These are just rumors, so take all these with grains of salt. They already sound pretty fishy since Disney+ shows border on the family-friendly, and if they took the third option, it'd probably mean having to negotiate further with Sony, so...
As fun as an idea and as big a meme it is, I actually don't really want Spidey 3 to be a Deadpool / Spidey movie. If it's going to be a crossover, I'd prefer it be with someone he's got a long rapport with. Like the Daredevil, or Human Torch, or even Dr. Strange, or something.
That's not to say that the two of them have had cool crossovers, but the idea of them crossing over has always been built from "hey, their costumes look similar!" In the stories themselves, Spidey can really be any Everyman hero and do the exact same things.
I would still prefer Spider-Man: Homecoming Again or whatever to be a Spider-Man story and Deadpool would totally overshadow him, but I would like a Spider-Man/Deadpool spin-off movie. I know Sony owns the rights to Spider-Man and Disney owns the rights to Deadpool now, but perhaps they could co-produce the film?
That isn't to say I also wouldn't love to see Spider-Man meet Daredevil. Their rapport is very different.

Yeah the issue is Spidey & Deadpool have an epic bromance that usually gets pretty sexual which is an issue when the Spidey here is still in high-school.
We are gonna have to wait a while before Spidey can legally dance in his underwear in front of a bunch of women during a date.
Is it an epic bromance if Peter is incredibly uncomfortable with Deadpool’s come ons?
Forever liveblogging the AvengersYeah, Deadpool and Spidey together is a Straight Man and Wise Guy concept, heavy on the wise guy, that I don't think works well with MCU Spidey.
Most of them are basically Deadpool stories featuring Spider-Man, and it's not often there's a crossover that gives Peter a chance to do much but be made uncomfortable by Deadpool entering and complicating his life, power through it because he has to for the common good, and eventually clever his way out and repair his upended status quo. If there is, you can bet what Peter's doing and what Peter and Deadpool are doing will be largely separate. They don't mesh well unless Peter leaves his world, enters Deadpool's world and is thus thrown for a loop by it.
Given that movie space is significantly, if we need a straight man for Deadpool it could be Peter, but there are better choices (one of them being "just adapt a new character for it") but it absolutely shouldn't be in Peter's own movie.

I got it, the perfect or good enough villains to bring in with the Multiverse.
The Ultimates by the Goatlicker Mark Millar himself. What better way to show how bad the Multiverse can get than those fucking assholes.
Shit even bring in Downey & Evans to play Ultimate Iron Man & Cap. Hell reprise the entire Avengers cast as the Ultimates for one big fucked up bonznae. Scarjo as a traitorous double Agent, Ruffalo as the cannibal (of course he wouldn’t eat anyone onscreen but still deranged Hulk) Hulk, Renner as Bullseye Hawkeye, Hemsworth as an insane maybe Thunder-God, Downey as an apathetic alcoholic jackass, & Evans as Goddamn jarhead jingoistic warhawk Captain of the Shitty U.S. of A.
It be the most fucked up shit ever put to film. Just outright villains, as the Ultimates deserve.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Captain Marvel is at least in the upper half of my rankings, which is a good thing. It was never gonna go toe-to-toe with my big four but it's still a solid, commendable effort that showcases the strengths of having a predominantly female cast and crew. Having bops from Heart and Garbage helps. My favorite solo origin movie of the lot by far.
The biggest duds I've seen are Age of Ultron, Doctor Strange and Iron Man 2.

Self-serious autistic trans gal who loves rock/metal and animation with all her heart. (she/her)Captain Marvel is one of my favourites, up there with Civil War, Avengers and Black Panther (but behind Winter Soldier). The dynamic between Carol and Nick is great, I really like movies where the protagonist has to find out they’re on the wrong side, the action is entertaining, and I love Talos.
I’d say the worst MCU films are Iron Man 2, Thor 2, Age of Ultron, Ant-Man and Doctor Strange. They’re not as outright terrible as the worst movies from other studios (e.g. X-Men: The Last Stand, Green Latern), but the first three are bad and the latter two are just ... uninspired.

While I think Iron Man 3 is meh, I feel it's less offensive than 2. And iirc it was during the times where they were still building up the MCU, so its contemporaries are kinda lame at the time as well (Hulk and Thor - though Thor was a bit better). And man I think Hulk is the worst next to Thor 2, I'm glad Marvel managed to push further.
I'm honestly still not sold much on Marvel. With that said I do enjoy everything else besides her barring the asspull-handing of the Tesseract.
Hulk will always be the one I go to bat for. Mainly because I feel it's very underrated. It's better than IM 2 and Thor 2. I'd also put it personally above Thor 1 and Captain America 1.
I've wanted to see The Leader come back for so long.
Kaze ni Nare!Recently there was someone listing Captain Marvel as favourite movie and was promptly accused of trolling. God, I hate the internet.
It is imho currently along with The first Avenger (though that one has recently garnered more fans) the most underrated movie of the MCU. But maybe that will change. I went from "yeah, that was good" to "You know what? The more I think about it, the more I like this movie" for me. Usually MCU movies have the opposite effect on me.
Hulk is difficult for me. It is easily the most skippable of all the movies, but it is all so kind of solid. It is still my least favourite, because other objectively worse made movies are way more entertaining for me. Plus, this is the one MCU movie where the casting isn't really spot on.

Then again, I'm not a fan of a lot of the more fan favourite movies. So I'm probably just weird. I thought Age of Ultron was a lot better than Avengers. IM 3 is one of only two movies I've ever walked out on (though I've softened to it over time), I didn't like Guardians 1 at all. Ragnarok annoyed me. I would've been ok with a movie about Strange dealing with his hand situation and never once bringing magic into it. XD I find Black Panther overrated.

Kaze ni Nare! Not sure on the Namor rights, but in the case of the Hulk Universal holds the distribution rights to any solo Hulk film, but Marvel holds the production rights.
Which means that while Marvel can make a solo Hulk film, once it's completed Universal will be the ones actually releasing the film. That means Universal will get both a cut of the box office and have the final say in when and how the movie is released.
This wasn't a problem prior to the Disney buyout since Marvel Studios had to work through 3rd party distributors anyways. And it probably wouldn't be an insurmountable problem today if a Hulk solo film was a guaranteed hit, but given the middling performance of the first MCU Hulk movie (as well as the earlier, non-MCU Hulk movie), that's just not the case.

Yay for Ao S!!!! It actually managed a 0.5 live rating this week with 2.37 viewers. That's great numbers for a summer show!
