Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

The thing with backgrounds like that is they're nearly always lost when transplanted into another medium, except Magneato's backstory, they always manage to include that,I guess it's because it's dramatic/tragic enough that writors go "Yeah,we can work with that" everyone else is treated like "Who the hell cares outside of the comic books fans"
have a listen and have a link to my discord serverIt doesn't need to be anything major. Just have Ben drop a few Yiddish phrases here and there. Hell, a lot of Yiddish phrases have permeated American culture in general, especially in New York.
Unless Ben isn't the type of Jewish that would speak Yiddish. I don't actually know.
Writing a post-post apocalypse LitRPG on RR. Also fanfic stuff.Ben Grimm isn't just Jewish, he's also from Queens - where like 90% of modern Yiddish as a Second Language gags are a reference to - so I doubt anyone would bat an eye if he let out a little here and there.
Instead of being made of orange rocks, he'll be made entirely out of gigantic chunks of kosher salt.
He'll look like that white crystal dude from the original Guardians of the Galaxy.
And Namor is now his archnemesis, and made of sea salt to remind us he's from the sea.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique! So it took me forever to realize it, but (spoilers for Endgame):
Thor: Ragnarok being more like a Guardians of the Galaxy film makes sense as foreshadowing of him not only meeting the guardians, but also joining them.
One Strip! One Strip! The rumor I heard about the plot of WandaVision is that she brings Vision back to life and reality warps in order to give him a soul. They then move into the suburbs where she faces both prejudice for being robosexual and the fact that Vision's soul changes him in some way.
No idea if it's true but there it is.
This song needs more love.To my knowledge, there's nothing stopping them from using it beyond the fact that Comic-Book Movies Don't Use Codenames.
There hasn't been an opportunity to organically integrate "Scarlet Witch" into the story, since it's such a weird and out-there name. The MCU likes to have other characters apply the moniker, and Scarlet Witch kinda sounds like an insult in that context.
Civil War is the only opportunity I can think of given how condescending and demeaning the name sounds as a spoken phrase. That would require the film to have put more emphasis on Wanda's actual crimes. Ross would have to say it during his dressing down of the Avengers. Something like
- Cap: All we've ever done is try to save lives.
- Ross: Is that right? Your scarlet witch over there is an international terrorist. Did you ever consider how the rest of the world feels about that?
Or
- Wanda: We were just trying to—
- Ross: Yeah, I think that's just about enough out of the scarlet witch.
Or maybe a headline. "SCARLET WITCH SCREWS UP BOMB DISPOSAL" or something.
But beyond that, there just hasn't really been a way to integrate the phrase "Scarlet Witch" in a way that sounds organic.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.
If I remember correctly, closest we got to that was Tony calling her a little witch in Age of Ultron. But that was when she was a baddie, so...

I can imagine Wanda Vision using White Vision as a product of her recreating him with her powers.
Typical Hollywood whitewashing.
Although I do wonder if Vision's going to spend most of the show in his human form to help save on costs. The amount of make-up he needs has to cost a fair amount. On the other hand, Disney does seem to be throwing a lot of money at these new shows, so we'll see how that turns out.

I don't think we've ever had any overtly Jewish characters in the films (the Maximoff siblings are/were ethnically Jewish but the focus has always been on their Romani heritage), so now is as good of a time as any.
Though granted the Marvel films shy away from any sort of religion aside from Heathen jokes with Thor, Steve being a Christian, or the Meaningless Meaningful Words faux-spirituality of Doctor Strange.
