Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

While I am very aware that the LGTB+ community has focussed on Captain Marvel, turning her gay might actually be a terrible idea. The problem is that Captain Marvel is in the same position Black Widow used to be: Her currently being the only leading lady, she kind of has to fit into the desires and wishes of ALL female viewers. So give her any kind of romance at this point and you are bound to p... off at least one group. There is a need to have more leading ladies or at least female characters in prominent roles first.
There is also the idea that woman who want to go to the military just HAVE to be lesbian. Hence turning her gay would play into some really unfortunate tropes.
Honestly, I would prefer it if Mantis were gay. Because she is pretty much the opposite of the stereotypical lesbian character and there were already some suggestion made that she might be.
On a more practical angle: I don't think that Disney will jump both feet first into this, they will slowly turn up the volume to see what they can get away with. I wonder to this day if the starting scene of Endgame run unchanged in Russia and China, or if they just changed the text a little bit.
Mantis is not human, so the idea of straight/bi/gay may not even be relevant for her.
Carol seems too raw and elemental to settle down with any sort of traditional relationship. She seems to be above it all, at least for now. Maybe she'll come down to Earth, metaphorically speaking, at some point.
I loved that scene with Joe Russo, although I didn't realize it was him at first. I should be used to director cameos by now, but all I could think at the timie was, "Wait, I know that guy. It's not Mark Ruffalo... oh, he's gay? Good for Marvel."

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"So enough time has passed that Infinity Wars comics are appearing on unlimited what with their gimmick of “what if amalgam except only marvel” squishing two characters into one character
Who do you think would be interesting to squish together into one person in the MCU’s more limited cast?
Some of the same possibilities exist but we don’t have to retread

Forever liveblogging the AvengersIt depends on whether they want to reboot Deadpool for the MCU or play wacky multiverse shenanigans with him. They need to keep Ryan Reynolds in the role, and the DP concept is ideal for maintaining continuity across universes.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"It looks like Far From Home is going to establish how the multiverse works
Unless Mysterio is full of shit
So I could see them migrating Deadpool over to the MCU You know what else would be cool? Migrating the Xmen version of Quicksilver to the MCU. Audiences are probably more familiar with him then the MCU's version, so it would not be that difficult.
If they do bring in Quicksilver, I want to see how Wanda will react to seeing an alternate version of her brother alive. The film's barely touched on how Pietro's death affected her after Avengers: Age of Ultron.
They really should just stuff the Fox X-Men into a closet and forget about it after New Mutants. Starting fresh within the MCU is the best thing they can do.
Honestly I'd even be okay if they rebooted Deadpool too. Ryan Reynolds was good but the idea that only one actor can ever play a character was always kind of dumb to me.

This song needs more love.I think they've literally said they're continuing the Ryan Renalds Deadpool movies, and there's a picture of Deadpool on the official Disney website. Even if they're not fans of the Fo X-Men, they're clearly fans of Deadpool.
Deadpool 2 ended with a bunch of time travel shenanigans anyway, so it wouldn't be hard to reboot the X-Men while just saying that Deadpool retconned himself and his movie's supporting cast into the MCU.

The best part about Deadpool as a character is that he'd totally roll with that. Seriously, I would not accept any other actor besides Ryan Reynolds now as DP. He's just too damn good at the role.
He would miss some of his besties, though, so I would indeed hope that Negasonic and Vanessa would make the trip with him.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"

While I understand why the Netflix shows couldnt cross over with the MCU, I wonder if they could cross over with the cable/network/hulu/disney + shows.
