Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

The main thing that differentiates Namor from Aquaman is that he's an egocentric, abrasive, potentially misogynistic asshole, and I really hope that stays. Namor can't carry a movie by himself, he definitely shouldn't have a starring role, but he could be fantastic as a wildcard supporting character.
Namor is a Villain Protagonist kind of hero. His douchebaggery is part of his charm, so to speak. Given the way the MCU approaches its heroes (the former category of Good Flaws, Bad Flaws at worst) I doubt they'd even let him lead a film without significantly toning him down, which would kind of remove the point.
Yeah. Namor is going to be tough.
We probably won't see much of his support cast either (Namora, her younger clone Namorita, etc).
Actually, beyond his identically powered cousin and the younger clone daughter of said cousin, he doesn't really have much supporting cast does he?
One Strip! One Strip!did we? Though I guess Marvel already has so many franchises in the pipeline, having him as a recurring character might make more sense. Even if he IS one of the original six (I mean the first heroes which got the first Marvel TV show, which were Captain America, Thor, Namor, Ironman, Ant-man and Hulk).
There's also a rumor that Brother Voodoo and Clea will be in Dr. Strange 2. Honestly, Dr. Strange 2 is one of the MCU films I'm most excited for, considering the things we've heard about it combined with how awesome Dr. Strange was in Infinity War.

Namor works perfectly as an antagonist & then a hard to work with Anti-Hero.
Not that he's an irredeemable person but person-wise he's a sack of shit for the most part.
Egotistical, violent, humohobic, does not respect the sanctity of marriage, etc. He is most definitely not a decent person by any stretch of the imagination.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Hasn't the guy who plays the Shredder in the new Live Action Ninja Turtle movies said he wants to play Namor?
My various fanfics.

I agree that Namor sounds like he would work better as a Wild Card who varies between ally and antagonist (depending on whether his goals align with the protagonist’s), rather than as a protagonist.
