Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

That's a good point. Jameson can easily say "we know who Iron Man is! Everyone knows Captain America! Even the Incredible Hulk is front and center! What does Spider-Man have to hide?"
Man, the MCU could use more "regular person" superheroes. The only other one is Ant-Man. Though I guess we'll start getting more of them, now that most of the majority absence of mutant character is no longer a thing.
Jameson should be myopic, should be annoyed by all things Spidey, but don’t portray him as a coward or only in it for himself.
Then there was the time he yelled right in the face of goddamn
◊ Godzilla.
Also worth noting is that it was recently revealed in the comics why we hired Peter as a freelance photographer in the first place...
Now that we know the X-Men series will probably end with Dark Phoenix, I'm wondering what will happen to Deadpool 3. Will they release it later this year or by 2020?

He/His/Him. No matter who you are, always Be Yourself.
No. Deadpool 3 hasn't entered production yet, so there's no way it'll be released that soon. Hell, I don't even think it has a script.
If they wanted to wait until the whole Disney-Fox deal was over with and for them to get confirmation on what Disney plans to with the franchise, I can see them starting production maybe sometime next year or so. Maybe they'll have a release date aimed for 2021 or 2022, once all the cogs have been sorted out.

So, it occurs to me that one of the biggest reasons MCU Peter Parker has a much easier life than the other versions is because he doesn't have to hide his secret identity from the people who matter.
The three most important people in Peter's life (Aunt May, Ned, Tony) found out he was Spider-Man on their own (in Ned and May's cases, by accident), and they are all *incredibly* supportive of him.
By the time Infinity War and Endgame rolls around, Peter has become a lot more trusting and cavalier about introducing himself as Peter Parker to the other superheroes. The Avengers knows Spider-Man is Peter Parker, a kid from Queens and not some faceless secretive asshole, and so they can be a positive presence in Peter's superhero career. He has people he can rely on now.
Hmm, it's almost as if "keeping secrets from people whom you're supposed to trust" was a terrible idea and would only lead to unnecessary drama and suffering.
It makes sense if you make his motive about Spider-Man. If his vendetta is strictly about Spider-Man, then his motive for it should also be about Spider-Man. It doesn't make sense to say "A mugger in a mask shot his girlfriend" and then turn around and go "He's cool with all masked superheroes as long as they aren't Spider-Man. Because he hates masks. But only when worn by Spider-Man."
The same issue that gave us that crappy motive also touched on a few other, better ideas. For instance, an iconic part of Spidey's backstory is that he tried to be a wrestler before Uncle Ben was shot. That issue suggested that Jameson was actually a photographer in the crowd to see "The Amazing Spider-Man" make his debut appearance.
The idea there was that Jameson sees Spidey as an entertainer first and foremost who then decided on a lark to be a vigilante 'cause it's fun. In the comic, he tells Spidey that he is a dangerous threat to people's safety because he just shows up and LOLs all over a dangerous crime in progress. He sees Spidey as a showboating troll who just thinks it's funny and cool to interfere with police investigations and actual superheroes, all so he can see his face on the news.
Having only seen Spider-Man's origin story from the outside, Jameson thinks it's all about publicity for a fame-hungry glory-hound who doesn't really care about saving any lives and just wants to crack jokes for the camera. And that he is recklessly endangering people in the process.
It's a lot of extrapolation based on "Spider-Man: Pro Wrestler but now he's fighting crime!" But it actually makes a lot of sense. To him, Spider-Man is Dwayne Johnson, kicking in the door during a delicate hostage negotiation and screaming "DO YOU BANK ROBBERS SMELL WHAT THE ROCK IS COOKING?!"
This is a way better explanation for his behavior than the mugger thing.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.I agree. I mean, secret identities make sense for some heroes, but for the majority of them they were always pretty stupid.
Speaking of secret identities...I wonder how they will call the next Spider-Man movie...Home Alone? The long way home? home office? Home again? broken home? hearth and home? Take me home? home from home? home sweet home? home stretch?journey home? no place like home? home hunting?
Now that I think about it, being open with the people closest to him, and actually letting them help him, instead of trying to push them away, is a big part of why RIPeter was so well adjusted and effective as well.

Some of Jonah Jameson's best moments tend to come from Daredevil, come to think of it. Seen through the eyes of Phil Ulrich, Jameson's lifelong friend and who is usually covering highly dangerous criminal conspiracies, Jameson tends to come across as a bastion of journalism integrity of sorts willing to break big and dangerous stories despite the threats of the powers that be (be them corrupt government folks or powerful criminal dons) and always doing his best to protect his journalists from said powers that be.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."Also about endgame not going deep into infinity war consequence....is kind of a given on avenger movies, I mean age of ultron end with ew menber and the next movie have them fight each other and much of the consequence of accords is brush aside when thannos arrive.
the avenger movies are pretty much game changers(kind of),and is kind of hard to explore the change they bring.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"I love how the only one now glowering is Wasp, who's face just screams YER GETTING REKT!
Edit: Warning of slight spoilers for Endgame here. Forgot what thread this was for a sec.

One Strip! One Strip! So has it ever been explained why Stormbreaker was capable of powering through the united might of the infinity stones at the end of Infinity War.
Thanos fires a blast comprising all the colours of the gauntlet and Thor meets it by throwing Stormbreaker. It somehow keeps travelling, pushing the beam back and impales Thanos.
It's not like a quick moment either. The Axe soldiers on through at least 2 seconds of sustained contact with the Gauntlet lasers.
Kaze ni Nare!

Honestly, given that the MCU has generally avoided masked, anonymous heroes, that actually would give Jameson more believable motivation against masked heroes. The only other one operating is Daredevil, and Spider-Man certainly presents himself more as a public figure. It would be interesting to see it take a similar turn in the comics where Spider-Man eventually reveals his identity and deal with the fallout.
