Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Migrated to Chloe Jessica!
if that had gone through, Otto would have ended up being his *own* brother-in-law.
Migrated to Chloe Jessica!I demand they adapt Aunt May marrying Doc Ock. As in Doctor Olivia “Liv” Octavius.

Oh great, it’s Liv...
luckily someone wrote that fanfic.
The whole thing killed me. I especially love the JJJ appearance.
Peter swore under his breath. J Jonah Jameson, seated in the opposite row, promptly burst into tears. He buried his face in a monogrammed handkerchief as his wife patted his shoulder.
“I just love weddings!” he sobbed gruffly. “Parker, why aren’t you up there, taking photos for the society page?”
“Maybe because it’s my aunt’s wedding that I am not working at and because I am filled with hatred,” Peter suggested.
“Pictures, Parker,” Jonah sobbed, ignoring him. “I want pictures of this wedding!”
“Oh for the love of...” Peter said, tipping his head back.

No, it takes place pre-Snap.
WHEDON: For the multiple reasons, we had to do that. One of the main ones being that we were not positive when season 6 would air. We were pretty sure it was going to be in the summer, but if they moved us up to January and we had tied into in any way, it would’ve destroyed everything. So the safest course of action for all parties involved was for us to stay pre-Snap.
x5 it gets better:
“I don’t like this,” Peter said, his head lolling against the back of the couch. He looked over at Mary Jane plaintively. “I do not like that this is my life right now. Make it stop.”
“Just ride it out, sweetie,” Mary Jane said, patting his thigh. “Just ride it out.”
“You were going to steal my inheritance and frame poor Peter for my murder!” May said angrily, hitting Liv in the chest with her own diary.
“Alright, yes, that was my plan at one point,” Liv admitted. “But was what we shared in the meantime not beautiful? Was it not in its own way precious? Did we not make steamy, passionate love that night in the Mediterranean –”
“God, please,” Peter groaned, hands over his face. “Make it stop.”
“I can forgive a lot, Liv,” May said. “All those times you tried to kill my nephew, I could live with –”
“Wait,” Peter said, his hands sliding slowly down his face. “You could what.”
“—But for my own wife to lie to me for months!” May continued. “What happened to honesty in a relationship, Liv? What happened to us?”

I have a feeling that the film division of Marvel really didn't communicate what their plans were for Endgame with the TV division, leading to this very obvious patch-job.
The other shows either didn't specifically reference events from the films or were cancelled beforehand, but Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was the only show that tried to tie-in to the events of Avengers: Infinity War. So this obvious retcon just feels haphazard. It was not a good way to start the season IMO.
Unless you want to put the show in an alternate universe at this point. That's probably the easier choice to do. Just claim that in this timeline, Thor aimed for the head the first time around.
It's also the same motivation the 90's animated series JJJ had. His backstory had him defying a crime boss by printing a story about said boss. The boss responded by sending a masked hitman to attack JJJ and his wife. JJJ survived the attack, but his wife didn't.
This is also why he realizes he made a grave mistake in turning Mac Gargan into the Scorpion. The Scorpion is exactly the kind of masked menace JJJ always claimed Spidey was.

Disgusted, but not surprised

The recent Spectacular issue where Spider-Man unmasked to JJJ after a long heart-to-heart indicated that JJJ was doing it because of a fridging. A mugger wearing a mask shot his girlfriend once and now he hates masks forever because of it.
It's pretty underwhelming and kind of stupid as a motivation.
