Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Migrated to Chloe Jessica!
evem in the ps4 game where he was an alex jones expy jjj had some valid questions and points (which are mentioned on the game's page, or possibly his character page). he also wasn't a full on frothing lunatic like jones, so there's that.
Migrated to Chloe Jessica!I agree with others that John Oliver is a bit of a weird fit for Jonah.
For one think, Oliver is self-deprecating in a way that I just cannot imagine Jonah ever being.
Oh God! Natural light!
Migrated to Chloe Jessica!
that's true. i cant imagine jjj humiliating himself for laughs the way john oliver does. i dont think id say it's because if his ego, though; moreso... how do i put this? i feel like he'd find the idea annoying and pointless.

Well, the PS 4 game had Jameson be a financier for the Scorpion project, but he claims that he didn't realize that Mac Gargan was a nutcase and that the doctor behind the project was more interested in his money than protecting the city. With that said, I heard that when New York goes to a real crisis, Jameson reduces his attacks on Spider-Man to focus more on the people's concerns.
Spider-Man: The Animated Series Jameson is personally involved with the Scorpion project but in that episode, we are given a Freudian Excuse for Jameson's hatred of Spider-Man (namely his wife was killed by a masked man with a gun) and Jameson did do an Enemy Mine with Spider-Man because he sees the Scorpion to be far worse than Spider-Man could ever be. And the show made it clear that Jameson hates fake news, which is why he fires Eddie Brock for lying to him about Spider-Man's supposed crime.
Sam Rami's Jameson is more into tabloid headlines and stories, but he apparently had a technical clean track record of reporting considering that he fires Eddie Brock for fake photos and fake news, forcing Jameson to make a retraction which hasn't happened in years.
And we shouldn't forget about Kingpin's first appearance in Amazing Spider-Man #50-51. One of his first target is Jameson for printing negative news about him, which ironically forces Spider-Man to save his biggest hater.

What Brock did was particularly dickish in the animated series, since the crime Brock was lying about was an attack that left JJ's own son badly injured. Brock claimed Spidey did it, which led JJ to issue a million dollar bounty on Spidey. When JJ heard his son confirm Spidey's claim that it was actually the Rhino who attacked, that really pissed off JJ.

Disgusted, but not surprised
Well, Mac is already a criminal and I wouldn't be surprised if a man like Norman Osborn was looking through the prison list for potential test subjects to create super soldiers.
I mean The Spectacular Spider-Man had Norman create the Rhino and Sandman through that method.
Plus we know from the likes of Hammer there's a market for Iron Man knock-offs so if they went the powered armour route it would fit - especially as this Pete was close to the OG Iron Man.
"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."

tbh my only big gripe with this incarnation of spider man is that he didn't make his own suit. i feel like it's too much of a departure from the original character. i love everything else about him. but im not happy that tony made his suit.
Migrated to Chloe Jessica!Spider-Man: The Animated Series Jameson is probably the nicest version of Jameson there is. He's abrasive and an obnoxious skinflint, but you can actually believe that that version is well intentioned. That one also paid for Peter's wedding, iirc.
After that, I'd say The Spectacular Spider-Man is probably the next most "good" version. He was a egotistical nepotist whose grudge against Spidey was especially petty, but he was highly sympathetic all the way through and largely good to Peter.

Animated Series Jameson only paid for the wedding to compete with the Kingpin, which was still pretty funny.
Jameson is a dick but he should be a dick that has standards. This is a guy who fought off demons from hell with a baseball bat to protect his employees, yelled right in the face of goddamn Godzilla, and refuses to publish anything without evidence.

To be fair, JJJ's honesty depends on the writer somewhat. He originally even distrusted Captain America IIRC.
It's become a bit more common to portray him as nicer, in part because that makes him admittedly quite a bit more interesting.
