Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Migrated to Chloe Jessica!
tbh? id be good with carell. i feel like he could put his own spin on the character well enough to differentiate from JK.
also, if JK was portrayed as being exactly Michael Scott, that would be amazing.
Migrated to Chloe Jessica!
Migrated to Chloe Jessica!
we could have a debate about that, but this really isn't the place, and personally i would rather not get thumped.
- JK Simmons is not too old. Michael Keaton is 67; Simmons is only 64. He could still play JJJ and probably should.
- That said, I am not adverse to other actors playing him as long as they are a) good actors and b) something different from Simmons' portrayal.
- I can totally see JJJ as the host of Fact Channel News
and also runs the "Daily Bugle app" which allows anyone to take pictures and upload it to the Daily Bugle Social Media account and become their own (unpaid) reporter.
- At which point, Peter would definitely be able to get some attention for all the good Spider-Man photos he's able to take. And since the Daily Bugle owns all the pictures uploaded through the app, he would own Peter's pictures...
- ...until Peter realizes this and stops doing it, forcing JJJ to give him a job: official Daily Bugle Social Media adviser. And occasional photographer.
Captain America: The First Avenger is probably the closest to what a Spielberg directed MCU film would be like. Mostly because Joe Johnston's work has often been compared to Spielberg's, for better and for worse.
So... I met Taika Waititi today. This was at a showing
◊ of Merata
(which is on Netflix too.)
Not for very long, the theater staff was trying to shoo us all out and I got to ask zero questions about any of the Marvel movies but he liked my anecdote about friends overseas and signed
◊ my Ragnarok DVD.
Certainly better than Alex Jones. J Jonah Jameson is the kind of asshole you want to keep around as long as possible, not wish him to be permanently banned from the news media.
And it would be a great opportunity to see Jameson tackle down a real criminal rather just Spider-Man like he did in the comics. Such as the Kingpin.

"Spider-Man isn't even a superhero, he's just a weird masked pervert wearing red-and-blue tights, which I have to point out, just makes him look like an even more horrifying knockoff of Pepsiman covered in dirty cobwebs, therefore I must presume that Tony Stark found him in a closet in an long-abandoned Pepsi factory somewhere, feasting on the delicious innards of orphaned children, just like real spiders do. What the fuck is wrong with you, Spider-Man? WHAT. IS. WRONG. WITH. YOU?!"

JJJ's something of a hypocrite, politically. He cares deeply about the truth and honest, justice in journalism when it comes to some topics, but throws that out the window when it comes to his ego topics.
It makes his actual politics difficult to glean, because what exactly he believes can change based on what's easier to use to blame Spider-Man.
I do remember comics Jameson being staunchly pro-civil rights for everyone who isn't Spider-Man (including mutants) and pro-unions, though.

How he responds to Scorpion is also a good way to tell what the writer thinks about the character. Does he avoid Scorpion because he doesn't want anyone to find out their connection? Then you're probably dealing with "cowardly skinflint" Jameson. Does he avoid Scorpion because the whole debacle is an Old Shame? Then you're probably dealing with "asshole, but still with redeeming qualities" Jameson. Does he avoid Scorpion because he actually blames himself and feels its not right to blame Spider-Man? Then you're dealing with one of his more noble showings.

How would people feel about Steve Carell being J. Jonah Jameson?
