Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

If it's possible you can just assume that this is the case. I know a few cases in which the husband took the name of the wife (including one example in my own family). Granted, in one of those cases it was because the husband had been settled with the surname "Göbbels" and he was just glad about an opportunity to change it. If that is possible in the US too, the Parker name could come from the female line.

...wait, what you guys talking about?
Peter's last name is Parker because his parents were named Richard and Mary Parker. Richard's brother was Benjamin Parker, hence "Uncle Ben." May's name was May Reilly and then she married Ben and became May Parker. She didn't lose her last name when Ben died.
Also, Uncle Ben was generally considered as Peter's father figure before he died, so...yeah, the comics have included plenty of that for years.
`Because she is May Parker. IIRC, May is Peter's aunt by marriage. His dad is Ben's blood nephew.
The rest is covered by what ![]()
said. There isn't any inconsistency there.
And this isn't a new thing the MCU did. May's always been May Parker in the comics, with her maiden name being Reilly.

No, Ben has always been the older brother of Richard Parker. It's been that way in the comics, the shows, the films. I don't know of single piece of media where Uncle Ben is the uncle of Peter's father.
Unless it was some early stuff that got retconned out. I'm going to need a citation on where that family dynamic's from.
Was it actually ever mentioned in the Lee/Ditko run? I got the sense that it was pretty abmiguous.
On the subject of the potential introduction of the Multiverse to the MCU, I’m pretty sure that it’s been confirmed to be Earth-199999 in the Marvel Multiverse, at least on the comics side.
The nice thing about the Multiverse it that it’s a meta-justification to the readers about how all these alternate continuities and what-ifs can exist alongside each other, but is only important if you want it to be for the sake of your story. (So crossovers and events or the like)

Speaking of Mojo, here's how I thing he ought to be used: Make it that Sakaar became Mojoworld. I doubt the scavengers who had the Grandmaster under their mercy would have wanted to make Sakaar a better place, which would make it easy for the Jabba The Hutt-esque alien to take ovwer Sakaar so that he can treat as a movie studio.
Random question: if Marvel Studios were to make 1 non-MCU live action film, what property would you want them to adapt? I would probably go with Strikeforce: Moriturinote or D.P. 7note , going full on 80s Period Piece with the latter.
One of Spider-Man's frenemies (recurring headaches?) is making the jump to the MCU in Far From Home.
It's everyone's favorite Spider-obsessed reporter, J. Jonah Jameson! Though he may turn out different than we've seen before...

In the US the Wife generally takes the last name of the husband. Exceptions are rare, though not unheard of.
