Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Yes, but at this point the F4 had already proofed itself to be a potentially viable Franchise. Provided that the studio actually produces a good movie.
Don't forget that even the first movie, despite doing fairly well in the box office was also not rated very highly. The critical reception was harsh and even the audience reception was somewhat mixed and average.
When the best the franchise can produce is "profitable but still mediocre"...it's tough to make the case that a studio should invest money in it when they already have other more viable franchises.
There is still potential, of course. But good luck convincing risk-averse studio heads and executives to give it a shot.

Disgusted, but not surprised![]()
You logic is kind of backwards. If a franchise can do good money on a movie which is generally considered bad, it naturally is even more viable if you offer a good movie. Granted, for Fox it most likely wouldn't have made sense to try again. But the fans trust Marvel, they will be there in a second for a good fantastic four version.
The only way a Fantastic Four movie will be greenlit will be if one or more of the higher-ups at Disney or Marvel Studios is a huge fan of the comic. Or if a big name director expresses interest in it.
Selling it as a sound business decision would be a challenge. Especially considering the damage the most recent movie in 2015 did to the brand. That movie was a travesty due to its Troubled Production.

Disgusted, but not surprisedThe Fantastic 4 will make it to the MCU when Feige feels that the time is right. Which will be most likely in around 3 years, depending on how his plans actually look like. Hell, recent developments make the Fantastic 4 an even better fit than beforehand. Remember, Family of explorers. Between Space, the multiverse and potential new cities under the seas there is a lot to explore for them.
Doubt it. Especially since they have an origin which could be summoned up in one short flashback.

I’d like to see Fantastic Four as one of those fancy cartoon animation shows with a myth arc
I’m afraid that unless Marvel’s “kids are super dumb” stance has changed while I’ve not been paying attention then it’s not to be
Forever liveblogging the Avengers
