Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

That thought has crossed my mind. Obviously Far From Home was scripted long before the Fox deal happened, but that doesn't mean they won't use the oppertunity created by the introduction of the multiverse to do just that.
I expect they're doing the opposite. They're using the context created by the Fox merger to make Beck's "from an alternate universe" story seem more believable to the film-going audience. They want fans questioning and going, "You know, it WOULD actually make sense. Maybe he IS for real, at least a little bit."
Marvel's using the Fox merger to trick moviegoers into buying Mysterio's con, thus allowing him to pull the wool over the audience's eyes too, not just the characters'.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.If the Multiverse is the Phase 4 hook, as a consequence of the destruction of the Infinity Stones, that would be awesome. I'm in.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"@Swanpride: Considering today is pretty much when the Russos's said that the spoilers for endgame are now far game online, It doesn't surprise me that some people will probably start filtering the spoilers from endgame into the main MCU thread (albiet still under spoiler tags).
Watch SymphogearI'd be very surprised if Spider-Man of all places was where they decided to explore the big new myth arc of the MCU. Plus it's Mysterio. The dude bleeds bullshit.
Also, it's still amusing the way Tony Stark is basically the moral center of this Spider-Man's mythos, and not Uncle Ben.

I got the impression that some forgot in which discussion they were posting. A friendly reminder is sometimes a good idea before it is too late. After all, I outright lied to a fellow troper a while back just because some careless poster dropped a huge spoiler and I didn't want to ruin the suspense completely.

it’s implied that Uncle Ben still died which inspired Peter to become Spider-Man
Tony was a big influence on Peter but he didn’t make him Spider-Man

Forever liveblogging the Avengers![]()
He did still die, but he has no visible affect on Peter's actual morality or motivation for being Spider-Man. He's never even mentioned out loud, and only gets the occasional reference. Whereas Tony has been the center of Peter's moral, heroic and emotional journey across pretty much every appearance.
In the first movie, he's motivated by wanting to by like Tony, his vices are contrasted against Tony's own and he only realizes who and what he really needs to be through Tony's teachings. And the comparison is even more apt in this movie, because his motivation is to be the best hero he can be for Tony's sake.
Basically, Ben is given lip service, but Tony is the one who actually has his role.

Yeah. I admit, as much as I like (shitting on) Tony, I do dislike that.
I do wish Ben got a more proper reference, and his legacy and effect on Peter was more known.
I get that maybe they want to set themselves apart from the previous movies, but it's still frustrating.
As for the truth of Beck's story, only time will tell. Considering universe hopping is something in his history, due to the whole thing with Spider-Men, it's only further muddled.
Lets also not forget that there's apparently three Mysterios in the comics right now. Guy is a mystery wrapped in an enigma...and full of shit.
We can't forget that.
One Strip! One Strip!Double post to cross post something from the Pro Wrestling thread:
It's too good an opportunity to miss.
It would be delightfully meta.
I hope Marvel, Disney and WWE push for it.
I get that there is an Attachement to uncle Ben but, well, we had multiple movies and TV shows about that version of spiderman. And it is kind of refreshing to have a peter Parker whose main motivator is more a sense for responsibility, and less a giant guilt complex. In a way, I like that even better.

MCU Peter's main motivator is wanting to be a better hero for varying reasons - it's improvement, not specifically responsibility. It's wrapped up a bit more in a Coming of Age shell: being responsible is part of improving oneself, but that's not quite what Peter is striving for.
For a film with a stronger delivered message that speaks more to Spider-Man's cultural identity and history - even if it does use Uncle Ben and features a "guilt complex" - watch Enter the Spider-Verse. It's the best Spidey film ever made for a reason.

<shrug> I would have preferred to see a film like this done with Kamala Khan, a character who fits the tone and themes of Homecoming far better than Peter. Or even better, Miles.
Them redefining Peter as someone defined by devotion to another hero more or less for the hell of it keeps them from now making a film or series based on a character whom are actually designed and explored in that direction (because, let's face it, they're not going to do two series with the same premise), and that's no good.
Now if they do Kamala, she has to eschew a lot of what made her so effective originally, because it's too similar to the divergent direction they took Peter. On the flipside, however, I'd be amused if they took this full circle and adapted Kamala with Peter's themes instead.

Gotta be honest. I wasn't a big fan of that trailer. It actually took away some of my hype.
Because to me it kinda brought up two ways they could play Mysterio that makes me roll my eyes.
Either he's genuinely good, meaning the villain is a bunch of generic elemental monsters.
Or he's going to be a twist villain. Now, from the first trailer I figured that, but I really hope they don't belabour it and have the turn come REALLY late in the film. I'm tired of twist villains.
Kaze ni Nare!
Kamala pretty much is Peter, only as a Pakistani-American teenage girl.
Fun fact: the current Marvel Team-Up story is about Peter Parker and Kamala Khan doing a "Freaky Friday" Flip.
