Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I’m fairly certain she can breathe in space in the comics too
She once took a Skrull into space to watch him asphyxiate while she herself was fine, except for the pointless war crime
Forever liveblogging the AvengersWell, she does wear a helmet for most of the movie, so maybe they didn't get their facts straight. Though in this case I am not even sure of that was a standard anti-sjw or someone influenced by them. The difference is sometimes hard to tell.
Hopefully Marvel has the sequel planned already. I don't want to wait too long for it....
She couldn't breathe in space before she unlocked her full powers, but now she can. In fact, you can see this transition in Captain Marvel to some extent. When she first rockets up to take on the Accuser fleet, she's using her helmet, but mid-battle she pops it off.
Never mind that there's no evidence of gas exchangers or oxygen tanks on Kree battle uniforms; we've been giving the MCU and comic book films passes on this sort of shenanigan for ages. The "space suit" that the Guardians use is similar: it looks like a gas-impermeable force field with no sign of how it generates oxygen. They just have "better technology".

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Just wondering, is there like some TV Tropes Discord server with a Marvel/superhero-centric channel or something?
Self-serious autistic trans gal who loves rock/metal and animation with all her heart. (she/her)I mean, I thought to listen to some Endgame essays, and literally the first one I clicked basically started with a rant that Captain Marvel can breath in Space. And communicate in space.
Ooooh, sure, when Batman can do it even though it makes no sense, he's a Memetic Badass. When Loki survives falling in space for the next movie, nobody questions it. But when Captain Marvel, whose powers actually are space-oriented, does it, suddenly it's a problem!
You gotta love how these guys try to complain about scientific accuracy in a story where a big purple guy can kill half the universe by snapping his fingers. I mean, it's not like the movie doesn't have some inconsistancies, but somehow Captain Marvel breathing in space takes priority to criticize over the time travel problems?!
Remember last time the agenda trolls tried to take on Marvel? Ultimately the only thing they accomplished was getting Guardians 3 pushed back a year or two and got James Gunn a job on Suicide Squad.
Wait, these were the same guys?! I thought the ones who did that did it because of something completely unrelated?

Well, not EXACTLY the same guy, and the Anti-SJW community isn't one united block, but it come from the same corner of the internet so to speak. James Gunn was targeted because he was outspoken against Trump. Brie Larson was targeted because she is outspoken about diversity. And in her case the more politicised wing of the Anti-SJW overlaps with the sexist and the "Get woke and go broke" wing.

It’s not strictly Avengers focused, but Desi Geek Girls
is a very fun podcast and Preeti Chhibber
on it just got to write a tie-in book for the MCU.

When James Gunn was hired, there was some concern about his sexist comments. He apologized and the matter was all but forgotten until some right-wing pundit went through the work of filtering "jokes" with paedophilic undertones out of his twitter. He put them together in order to push the "scandal" that James Gunn was acting all leftist but as in reality a potential sexual abuser. And Disney initially reacted the way you can expect Disney to react when confronted with those kind of accusations.
It is basically a trick of the Anti-SJ Ws: They are using what they call SJW arguments in order to target people. The idea is that they can't lose that way: If the studio fires James Gunn, they won. If the studio doesn't fire James Gunn, they can claim that SJ Ws are hypocrites and less keen on acting if the accused is one of their own.
They have done this for a while, wielding what they claim to be SJW arguments like weapons. there are already vids out there claiming that Brie Larson is a hypocrite if she doesn't give up her role for a more "diverse" actress.
Yep, and while they tried, they can't really claim that Disney didn't take the accusation serious either.
This so called culture war is just exhausting..especially when movies are the battle field. Because regarding movies, it is pretty clear that the notion of "more diversity" has already won. Black Panther and Captain Marvel made sure of that.
The more massive irony is that the whole "Fire James Gunn" thing was spearheaded by Mike Cernovich
, an alt-right troll who has said way worse things on his Twitter in a non-joke context (including a lot of "there's no such thing as rape" comments).
But yeah, let's move to something more pleasant.
On the more optimistic side, I admit I am more excited about the next Phase of the MCU than I have been in a while. Why? Because I am not sure what to expect now. Avoiding spoilers, the ending of Endgame makes me seriously want to see where they will go next. So great job, Marvel^^

The marketing for Spider-Man: Far from Home has been very vague about how connected it will be to the MCU, but given what happens in Endgame, it may well pull double-duty as a fun romp for Peter and his friends and a wrap-up for some of the character threads after that film.
This is smart on Marvel's part (forget about Sony for the time being) because a lot of people will be hungry for some of that closure, and will see Far from Home just for that even if they wouldn't have cared about a standalone Spidey film.

Now that they have literally nothing other than wild conspiracies? Trying to take down Brie Larson is going to succeed about as well as if they tried it on Chadwick Boseman. The same audiences that got both of those movies a billion dollars (myself included) would riot. Plus you have to imagine Disney is on high alert for this kind of scheme after they already got punked last year with Gunn.
