Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Probably the former. Bots are not very good at their jobs.

Well, YouTube recommendations are controlled by very complex algorithms, but one of the factors (as I understand) is that people watching a particular video will then go on to watch another video. "A lot of people watch X after Y, so since you watched Y we're going to recommend X to you."
So it's not unlikely that followers of these hate channels also watch a lot of interviews and other material about Brie Larson because they fixate on the object of their anger. This then causes YT to associate the two and there we are. Knowing this, said people might even deliberately attempt to manipulate the algorithms.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"With bots, my understanding is a lot of them often mistakenly group opposing ideas together, usually due to word association and the fact that opposites can be intrinsically linked (for example, impossibility and inevitability are both probabilities).
For example, a computer might group atheists and theists together, because they might both mention "God" and "The Bible" a lot, and they both like to talk about the existence of God. So, from the computer's standpoint, they appear to be the same group.
Same thing would go with talking about Captain Marvel and Brie Larson-it just groups together all sides of the 'debate' since they clearly all like talking about Brie Larson.
Leviticus 19:34It might be for the Black Panther films, as weird as that is to say. Unlike the comics, the films keep rigid to certain themes and kinds of bad guys: Guardians do space opera Flash Gordon stuff, Thor does fantasy themed villainy, Cap does political conspiracies, etc.
All of them eschew parts of the characters' comics mythoses to strictly keep the theme, and Black Panther's theme is more "warriors with super-tech and spiritual connections" and less "full scale energy beings." I could see it happening with a less major bad guy, but probably not with Klawe since he'd have to be front and center.
Plus the dude got shot in the face.
Maybe, but probably not. While it would be a decent place to introduce her prior to the X-Men (which imo they should do in general) T'Challa already has a love interest, and if they didn't changes horses with Iron Man, they won't with T'Challa.
Which is just as well. Storm / T'Challa was an overall poor idea.
I hear you. I watched it Saturday and I still haven't gotten around to collecting my thoughts, it's that mind-blowing (though I'm also busy with life, so that's a thing).
Anyway!
In an unexpected twist of events, Spider-Matriarch Amy Pascal is leaving Sony for Universal.
Funny story, I actually brainstormed a scenario that when Deadpool appears in the MCU, he'd make a crack about whether he had to kiss up to Kevin Feige or Amy Pascal to finally have a team-up movie with Spider-Man, but I guess Amy Pascal leaving Sony puts the kibosh on that gag ever happening.
I actually don't feel too beat up about this since she did some pretty dodgy things at Sony.
(Wistfully remembers Genndy Tartakovsky's Popeye movie...)
Now if we could get rid of Avi Arad or at least quit making anti-heroes wear the same dark clothes over and over and over again, I think we'll be set for life in terms of Spidey's cinematic future.

You know, I thought I could ignore the Anti-Sjws for a while but they really make it difficult…
They have now started a petition to have Brie Larson step down from playing Captain Marvel.
They are ruining our fandom!!!! We never had this kind of BS in the past! There has to be some way to make clear that those s...-stirrers don't speak for us. Not towards Disney, they will only pay attention to box office anyway, but towards other fandoms. They are giving our fandom a bad name, and they aren't even part of it.
Okay, this is even more idiotic...apparently the petition calls for her being replaced with a "black gay character" trying to make it out as if this is an "SJW" petition, so that they can then go and complain about it.
And ignoring them is pretty much impossible because if you don't jump ahead of them and make clear that this is another fake news they spread, people pick this sh... up as real. So, if you read somewhere "SJ Ws want Captain Marvel replaced"...yeah, don't fall for it.

Eh, I am just as irritated as you are with their nonsense, but we all know this petition won't make it far and will go nowhere, so really let's ignore it. I mean, who even remembers that petition they did to ask that the Last Jedi was retconned away? With some luck, that petition will fail so hard they will finally be shown to not represent the majority of the fans.
The point here is more that they are now creating their OWN drama because they are running out of stories to twist (since the press tour is over and everyone is happy with endgame). Usually the more onward to greener pastures when one of their campaigns failed, but this time I doubt that they will ever stop.
Their loss. Trying to assault the Marvel Cinematic Universe with their nonsense was the dumbest mistake they ever made.
Hope you are right...and that I'll find eventually some think-pieces regarding Captain Marvel which are really about examining the movie and not peddling BS.
I mean, I thought to listen to some Endgame essays, and literally the first one I clicked basically started with a rant that Captain Marvel can breath in Space. And communicate in space.
I guess the writers figured that being one of the most powerful characters in the franchise gives her a license to breath in space, like Thor and Hulk. Plus, she was powered by the Space Stone, so there's that.
