Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Honestly, I think that was mostly a combination of people paying more attention to those details now (at least when they are related to important Marvel movies) and the desire of the fans to have the movie break all the records. Longer run-time means that the movie is shown at less screens at the same time.
Btw, so much for "Endgame will cut Captain Marvel's run short"...in reality Captain Marvel has jumped up in the ranking and I wouldn't be surprised if Marvel gets place one AND place two at the box office this weekend.

I took a look at "An Unbridled Meh", and his criticisms are legitimate (to summarize, Captain Marvel's a plank of wood in terms of characterization, the villain is confusing, the plot makes no sense, the cat taking Nick Fury's eye made other non-comedic scenes revolving around Nick Fury's eye look comical in comparison, and the marketing was bad). The only bad thing was the Brie Larson fart face in the thumbnail, and apparently that's just what he does for his videos.
The legend has returned.Captain America's personality doesn't change. That's his thing, staying his same ol' self no matter what changes his body or the society around him go through.
Carol goes through the change of Kree soldier who never questions orders to, well, Captain Marvel who draws her powers out from within herself. That's a pretty significant change.

You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique! You do have to keep in mind with Lot R, they're a very special case and even then I'd argue the length of them is something of a downside.
Leviticus 19:34DP outselling Endgame is, frankly, incredibly unlikely. Even if it does very well, Endgame is basically in a perfect position and probably won't be beaten for a while.
Leviticus 19:34I have a feeling that CM is gonna hold up better in the long run than Infinity War or Endgame. Obviously I'm jumping the gun a bit here since I haven't seen the latter plus I can't speak for anyone else, but considering CM doesn't have to juggle as many characters and has female writers and a female director at the helm, I think I have a feeling of which one I'll be having more respect for a year or two down the line. Contentious take, I know, but I said what I said.
Self-serious autistic trans gal who loves rock/metal and animation with all her heart. (she/her)Also: how was the villain in Captain Marvel confusing? If they are referring to Talos, he had a clear motivation; if they are referring to Yon-Rogg, he also has a clear motivation. Nothing about them is confusing.
Also, the plot made perfect sense.

Detective Pikachu was pretty big on the Internet, considering it got over 100M views for the first trailer in the first 24 hours on the day where there was also a Toy Story 4 Teaser and Stan Lee's death.
That said however, I do think it'll make a large profit, China seems all over it.
And well, we all saw how absurd Pokemon GO was. It will cut into its legs but Endgame has so much hype around it that it wouldn't matter.
I wouldn't be surprised if this gets close or beats Avatar's gross WW, the movie is doing crazy well and Europe and Japan seem to be on board with it.

It will probably take until the new Godzilla movie for a movie to cut into Endgames legs.
Watch SymphogearJust saw it, loved it, will wait to discuss until we can talk about spoilers. At least now I can read this thread again.
Did anything interesting happen in here in the last 2 weeks?

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Without going into spoilers, i did notice one flaw Carol displayed in Endgame that could be brought up in a future film. It's elaborated more in the spoiler thread but i could be overthinking.
And if that indeed comes up in CM 2, you heard it here first

I saw a lot of hand-wringing about Endgame's run-time, but weren't all three Lord of the Rings movies and all three Hobbit movies three hours long? That didn't seem to cause any problems outside people complaining about inflated run-times in the case of The Hobbit. Was it just that people couldn't conceive of a superhero movie having a reason to be that long?
eta: weird page-topper, but okay.
