Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I'm going to see it with my brother on a weekend because the theaters are full.
Me, I'm prepared to be incredibly disappointed because if hype has taught me anything, it's that nothing is ever as awesome as when you're looking at it and when you actually get it, it's not worth the trouble.

Trans rights are human rights. TV Tropes is not a place for bigotry, cruelty, or dickishness, no matter who or their position.Always keep your expectations in check-you'll enjoy what is there rather than what isn't.

Same. I pre-ordered my tickets an hour after they were available, and I still had to wait until Sunday.
I'll watch it on thursday with my sister. There were sessions available early, but it was all on Wednesday midnight and I have morning classes.
Fucking college, getting in the way of my procrastination, can't believe I pay for this shit!
In order to ensure I didn't have any other commitments, Avengers: Endgame became the first movie I've ever formally requested time off of work just so I can attend.
I figured I was probably the only person in my department that was likely to go to such lengths to see it opening nightnote , and my request was approved.
I've preordered opening night tickets plenty of times before, but since I've started working some evening shifts I've always waited until I knew my schedule the week of release before actually going forward with the preorder.
You must have some really cool bosses...
In other news, I finally got off my ass and watched Ant-Man and the Wasp on Netflix and now I'm reminded of why I love the MCU so much.
That said! I stopped myself from watching any stingers because I didn't want to be reminded of why I hate Thanos.
I'm planning on seeing Captain Marvel this Tuesday, so nothing will stop me from watching Endgame. Thank god for spring break!
In a big city in Brazil, depending on the movie theater a ticket is like twice that amount or more. And keep in mind that a dollar is worth a lot more to us because of the bad exchange rate atm. Imagine if you had to spend like 70 bucks to buy a ticket and then you might have an idea of what it's like.

Here in Venezuela is the contrary, a ticket cost, at the actual exchange rate, about half a dollar. Honestly, I'm surprised that regardless of the economical crisis my country is going through, the cinema tickets always stays relatively cheap. Why are we still getting movies if Hollywood must be getting nothing from us?
Sadly, with all the blackouts there have been (another crisis), I doubt I will be lucky to watch Endgame without one ruining the movie.
Over here it depends on a number of factors...Which cinema you pick (multiplex are more expensive than the smaller ones), which day of the week you go (weekend is more expensive, under the week is cheaper and there are often special offers for Tuesday), the time (20:15 is sometimes more expensive than showing at, say 11:00), which movie you want to see (longer run-time or 3D means a higher price tag), who you are (children, students and pensioners pay less, and there there are special offers for groups and families) and which seat you want (usually further in the back the more expensive).
So depending on all of those factors, I have seen movies for 4 Euro (for a showing of Birdman in a small cinema where I sat at the very front), but I have also paid 18 Euro (for a weekend showing of Age of Ultron in the best seat in my favourite theatre).
Endgame will most likely cost me 15 Euro unless I decide to pick a cheaper seat after all....
Captain Marvel passed 400 million domestically over the weekend. It's back on place 4 of the box office.

I’ve had a thought that may be unrelated but I gotta get off my chest.
About the concept of future children storylines. Ya know those stories where heroes from the future comes to avert an apocalypse & their mostly comprised of future children of our characters including fusion children resulting from 2 heroes getting together.
I figured it be fun to have such a storyline but because of multiverse theory the future kids when they enter the last they find their parents but realize their existence is impossible. Due to various reasons like their parents not having kids yet, already having kids but said kids are completely different from them, some parents are actually dead, & for the fusion kids that their parents married to each other but instead to other people where they had kids with them.
The future kids then have an existential crisis & state of despair because they’ve entered a world where they will never be born no matter what.
I just find such a story absolutely hilarious.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Nah, it just means that their existence is impossible in that particular timeline / verse. It's not that disturbing, especially if one considers the sheer number of coincidences that have to line up for any one person to be born.
That was the key epiphany Doctor Manhattan had in Watchmen that convinced him that Humans Are Special. Everyone is a miracle, because everyone is born from a series of incredibly unlikely events and coincidences.
What would be more unnerving (or heartwarming) would be for one Kid from the Future to discover that no matter what happens to the timeline or universe, their parents always fall in love and have the kid. Meaning the kid is essentially some kind of multiversal constant.

Disgusted, but not surprisedThat’s why they have to no familiarity or awareness of the multiverse concept. They at first assume time works in a single line so to say & are thus shocked to find out that there are variables.
I’d also like a present hero to point out “No we are not together nor will we ever will be. Infinite realities, infinite possibilities, & in this reality it just never happens”
Like compared to most future stories they instead wind up in a timeline where all or most of them are an impossibility & are surprises & saddned by the idea because they never expected such a thing to happen.
I think I used the wrong wording there. I meant they think they’d just travel in their direct past.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I already have tickets booked for Saturday!
(Incidentally, it made me think theatres are probably losing money on advance seat selection. Even on opening weekend for a huge movie like this, the front rows are all empty - since people can see that’s all that’s left, they’ll just pick a different showing rather than get crappy seats. It’s a far cry from the ‘line up for 3 hours to get good opening night seats’ atmosphere of the Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings movies.)
I’m in a midsize city in Canada, and it’s $13 for a basic (2D) movie ticket.

I don't think Far From Home will be a prequel but it will be reliant on stuff from Endgame.
As for Endgame, I am super hyped and I can't even say why.
This song needs more love.
