Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

@Avatar
Sorry to bring it back to Avatar, but there's one point that went uncountered, and it's that the Avatar State itself has a huge asterisk next to it. When Aang uses the Avatar State, he's drawing power from all of the previous Avatars in addition to his own, roughly half of whom were women.
Aside from the Avatar State, Aang is weaker than the specialists of Team Avatar in every individual field except for Airbending (Katara's better at Water, Toph's better at Earth, Zuko's better at Fire, and Sokka is better at hand-to-hand combat).

And of the known Avatars during ATLA, half were women and far more successful than their male successors, both of which were huge screw ups.
If you'll forgive a man nitpicking a bit: Sokka is the better tactician; Suki is the hand-to-hand combatant of the team.
Hell, Sokka isn't even the best swordsman, Zuko is better than him by a fair margin, he's pretty much the Krillin of the team, that's why we love him.

And when he was on the ball, he was very on the ball.
I should point out that Katara only went with Zuko to fight Azula because he didn't think he could take her in a straight fight and needed the support. He only changed his mind when he saw how messed up he was...and still botched it by telling Azula he'd deflect her lightning when was winning, which is why she fired at Katara.
One Strip! One Strip!Yeah.
....so about Marvel....
....Give me a New Warriors movie. Heroes for the 2020's.
Yeah, I know there's already a New Warriors TV show (which I think is still being shopped around) but I think Marvels Teen Titans for the 90's deserves more....for some reason.
One Strip! One Strip!I'd prefer a Young Avengers movie. The New Warriors are still seen as somewhat of a joke (which is why the show combined them with the Great Lakes Avengers).

Marvel has so many young hero teams that they've let go by the wayside.
Young Avengers, New Warriors, half of the discontinued X-books.
Now they have Champions.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI mean, we already have groundwork for half a team: Cassie is on her way, Amadeus’ mother has shown up, they could always do Kid Loki at any time really, etc.
I’ve felt they should composite Young Avengers with Avengers Academy, and if they do that the concept would probably work best if a bunch of the important characters were introduced in the film itself in the anyway.
And New Warriors would definitely work best as an ensemble movie from the get go, like Guardians.

It is true that Marvel has had a glut of young hero teams. DC managed to keep it simple with the Titans and Young Justice.
X4 I suppose doing a Reality TV show and then blowing up a town will do that to you.
It might be in their best interests to streamline things in regards to the number of hero teams they've had, yeah.
Something I would like to see, is that Kid Loki has the same cover letter as in the comic.
"One mischievous and lovable godling who is not at all evil and definitely not manipulating everyone."
Speaking of Kid Loki, if they decided to adapt the arc in which he is possessed by his original self, I think it would not have much acceptance, because surely many viewers would consider it a boring example of Hijacked by Ganon.

The way I see it, Young Avengers would have the basic premise of the government trying to cultivate super teams they can control (with the same plot point setting up the Thunderbolts also), and so set out to train young gifted individuals.
The focus character would be Cassie since we already know her, as she goes out to train to be a superhero like her father. At the training facility she meets Amadeus Cho, Mettle, Finesse (especially if Taskmaster is in the Widow movie) and (insert fifth member).
The final member would be Kid Loki (if they set that up) who would appear to be a villain only to turn out to be their side.
I said it before, it doesn't matter what name the MCU slaps on it (though I guess "Young Avengers" would be the smarter one due to having "avengers" in the title), any combination of young heroes could do. They can pick an chose.
And yes, they already have Cassie and I guess if they wanted to Harley seeded. Even if he isn't officially a hero, he could be one. Monica should be too old by now, but it looks like they are working on a replacement for Hawkeye. And yeah, I guess they could the presence of Helen to throw Amadeus Cho into the mix (isn't she his aunt, not his mother?).
Otherwise they can just come up with whatever fits the story. Hell, for all I know they deliberately used Captain Marvel to leave one Skrull on earth and now there is some half-Skrull running around with special abilities

I continue to choose to believe that Scott and Hope hooked up just to piss off Hank.
And then Hank contrarily started supporting it so they gave up
