Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

    Original post
Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

[up][up][up]Short for boondocks, an American expression from the Tagalog word bundók ("mountain"). It originally referred to a remote rural area, but now, is often applied to an out-of-the-way area considered backward and unsophisticated by city-folk.

And now you know.

Since Clint owns a farm he should have some pets...and naturally there is Cassies giant ant (if it is still around), and whatever ant Scott currently feels attached to.

Which reminds me, what happened to poor Sleipnir?

I'm more interested in knowing why Thor's pet goats didn't show up yet.

I forgot about Cassie's ant! And now that forlorn scene in San Francisco is in my head and I'm sad.

Last we saw of Sleipnir was in a mural that Hela uncovered of her and Odin and some other things conquering the Nine Realms. I think he was alive in Thor 2.

I wanna see whatever animal makes Thor think that there's cats "large enough to ride." And a bilschsnipe? (No idea how you spell that.)

Maybe he played Dark Souls.

And I suppose tigers are big enough to ride, it's not a particularly good idea to try.

[up][up] In Norse myth, Freyja had a chariot pulled by cats. I assumed thor said "Bilgesnipe". Cursory Google search says they exist in the MCU. grin

I forgot about that! I feel cheated that we haven't seen a giant cat-pulled chariot.

If it helps it seems Asgard was a constructed world so it wouldn’t have as many species as a normal world

I have a feeling that the Loki series isn't gonna have much screen time in Asgard, or at least won't be nearly as showy with them. They've been really upfront about how expensive it is to film Asgard's scenes for the movies because they're so CG heavy.

Or it's a clever ruse and it's not actually from the film at all.

Also, I don't know how anyone would know it's from the "final battle" of the film — since we don't even know the plot of the film to begin with. Heck, the fight with Thanos might be within the first twenty minutes and then we get "Okay, now how do we unsnap everyone?" for the rest of the film.
