Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

It's literally a 22 minute montage of Thor throwing the axe at different parts of Thanos' body, including his shoulder, his solar plexus, his big toe...

The only positive one is the one where Thanos takes an ax to the knee, and retires to become a city guardsman instead.

I'd like to see a What if? Tony had died and Yinsen lived.

...I'd like that too.

By the way, if they're doing a Peggy becomes Cap story, then does that mean Hayley Atwell is coming back?

Yinsen actually does have a daughter in the comics who becomes an armor hero.

Atwell has voiced-acted for Peggy before, in Captain America: Super Soldier.

"What If Thanos wanted to turn half of all life into kittens?"

Everyone loves kittens, so nobody stops him. Then all the planets descend into apocalyptic economic crashes, but at least there are kittens.

Yep. The movie actors are going to provide the voice acting for the series.

For some reason, I really want to see Steve Rogers sing karaoke to this song.

I really wish the films made more fun out of Steve Rogers' rich and storied acting career.

Like, I'd have loved it someone - probably Tony - fished one of the old Captain America filmreels out of the internet or something and - in a scene like the one where they're hanging out trying to lift Thor's hammer - showed it to the rest of the Avengers.

Just a simple, fun, short scene of the Avengers as people, playfully at Captain America's expense.

I'd like to see a What if? Tony had died and Yinsen lived.

There was one Iron Man story involving moon rocks that were soul corrupting Toxic Phlebotinum thanks to years of being exposed to otherworldly power such as the Infinity Gems. The soul corruption caused Tony to suffer hallucinations. In one of them he imagined a universe where he sacrificed himself to put Yinsen in the armor instead of the other way around.

To show just how low Tony's opinion of himself really is and how powerful his Survivor's Guilt is, the world he imagines with Yinsen as Iron Man is better in every possible way. Everyone is happier and the Earth is well on its way to being a utopia and part of the galactic community.

Even after all these years, Tony has never forgiven himself for Yinsen's death.

The Iron Man anime took a different approach, revealing that Yinsen actually survived and later went on to get mixed up with the Zodiac Order and become a villain.

Adaptational Villainy of good-hearted Death by Origin Story characters is usually pretty bad.

Slavery or dissection to figure out if there's a way to make Kree as Long-Lived as Loki.

Then the Kree would go hunting other Long-Lived races like the Asgardians to mainline their blood, like an entire empire of Peter Thiels.

So much happening while I was asleep...so, let's see…

Yes to a Peggy as Cap series!!! Hell, yes to everything Peggy!!!! Peggy is awesome!

Yes to the Falcon and the Winter Soldier logo. I especially love the design of the "f"....it that a new idea? I would love for Falcon to have his own symbol which is just as distinctive as the red star, the shield, the hammer, the ironman mask and the hourglas.

And I don't mind the "those characters are in it" titles. No need to make this complicated. I sure as hope that Wanda Vision is some sort of crazy funny show.

Now that I think about it, it be dope if Wanda Vision takes some stuff from the Vision comic.

Vision & Wanda trying to live a home life while everything goes to absolute tragedy/horror/thriller shit would be entertaining as all Hell.

Things weren't exactly rosy for Wanda and Vision back when they were a couple in the comics either. Wanda's entire life has been, to put it lightly, a complete shitshow starting from childhood. That's what happens when you grow up near a sealed ancient demon god and you have just the right power-set to make contact with said demon god.

The first What If series on Disney+ will be what if Peggy Carter became Captain America.

Called it!!

Also, I think Scarlet Vision would've sounded better than Wanda Vision.

... Why aren't you working for Disney?

And for what if, I propose what if quiksilver survived Age of Ultron, and what if Fantastic Four movies didn't suck. tongue

It's literally a 22 minute montage of Thor throwing the axe at different parts of Thanos' body, including his shoulder, his solar plexus, his big toe...

So technically there would be one time he throws his axe to his left arm/hand and saves the universe by Thanos being unable to snap anymore?

Scarlet Vision sounds like some sort of action movie about someone really running amok, though. Maybe that is not the direction they want to take with the show.
