Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

I love how it shows they are all totally unified.

Well, yeah, their Helen of Troy turned to dust and isn't around to fight over any more. He was the first to go, in fact.

Their uniforms remind me of Mordin Solus from Mass Effect.

[up][up]You mean Bucky?

Although I'd say it was Tony who broke them...well, Steve too, but only at the very end. Tony was the one who sided with the accords for poor reasons.

Plus it's Tony. Even if there are better reasons to blame Steve, people will still go after Tony because he's Tony and getting people insanely pissed at him for existing, to the point where they are willing to cause a lot of death and destruction just to fuck him up is his true super power.

Ironically, his dad had the same power if the first season of Agent Carter is anything to go on.

I assume they actually do something, so there's that. And they can sell a ton of new action figures. The suits are alright, they feel quite comicbook-y.

Nebula joining the Avengers isn't all that weird by superhero comic heel-face turn standards. They share an enemy, that'll do. Rocket may still get some quips in.

Mordin was a cool son of a bitch, and we should all strive to be as great as him....with less near genocide under our belts that is.

Just because Nebula’s with the team and rocking the stupid outfit like everyone else doesn’t mean she won’t be a loose canon, either. Especially if they adapt in part how this goes in the comics.

Tbh, I’m more surprised about Rocket falling into this band of randos (from his point of view) so easily given how much trouble he had trusting even his Fire-Forged Friends. I love the little bits of characters interacting with him.

Thor probably vouched for Rocket and they saw how helpful he was during the Wakandan invasion.

Is there an in-universe reason why the Xandarians and some Kree look so much like humans?

Did some Terrans get abducted by aliens long ago and eventually settle on other planets or something? Or is it just a coincidence of cosmic proportion?

In the comics? It's because the Celestials seeded life in thousands of planets, so a lot of species are bipedal and look like humans, but with different colored skin.

Rocket has acknowledged in the last movie that he actually needs friends and he needs the other guardians. Naturally he would throw in his lot with the Avengers. It is the only way to get them back.

...I’m scared because I literally six years ago had a shower thought about an adaptation of Captain Peggy merged with an adaptation of Bullet Points. Now Marvel’s doing exactly that.

This is the third time they’ve filmed something directly from my brain. Do I have psychic powers or do I need to check my brain for a Disney probe?

I'm curious if WandaVision will actually mean something based on the obvious pun on WonkaVision. Maybe Scarlet Witch and Vision get a promotional pass to a limited tour of a particular insidious and magical chocolate factory.

I thought you were joking at first, but then I read that this is the real name. Which brings me to my one question: why? This title just sounds weird, like their making it a sitcom.
