Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Every MCU franchise is made for a specific demographic. Ant-Man is the family friendly franchise, hence it is less "edgy" than the other franchises. It is something save where parents can get their children hooked on the MCU without having to worry about anything overly traumatic happening. And I have a soft spot for it. It is like watching a Disney Picture movie from the 1960 or 1970s, but one of the good ones.
In a franchise with no shortage of [[Film/Thor questionable]]actions from fathers or father figures, it's refreshing to see Scott be a genuinely nice and loving dad to Cassie, not to mention Maggie and Paxton being supportive of them while they're dealing with the fallout from the Sokovia Accords.

Self-serious autistic trans gal who loves rock/metal and animation with all her heart. (she/her)I forgot one parental relationship in my summary earlier.
- Gamora and Nebula are Thanos' "adopted" daughters, whom he tests to destruction against each other. They both hate him.
Also, Quill has a "two daddies" thing going on with Ego and Yondu. One father abandoned him, murdered his mother, and when they finally meet, tries to use him to take over the universe. The other father abducted him from Earth and raised him as a criminal, but turns out to have actually cared a great deal about him. So... yeah.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I thought of another: T'Challa. His dad seems to have been decent, although we don't know much about their relationship. Of course, his father is also dead, so... At least he has a solid bond with his sister and mother.

I mentioned Aunt May in my earlier post. Killmonger's relationship with his father is barely portrayed, other than the "dead parent as motivation" aspect, so I didn't really consider it, but I suppose it could count.
That clip, though. It's so much better to have the additional context.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I really like the line: "There are a lot of other planets in the universe." It reminds us that the stakes of the Decimation aren't just limited to this one little world.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Yeah, and the fact that it triggers Thor, who is one of the people charged with defending that larger universe, is quite interesting. I don't know that I necessarily ship Carol x Thor, but they would make an amazing duo.
Rhodes really speaks for the audience with his previous line, too. I like how they don't just ignore the question, "and where were you during all of this?"

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Funnily enough she does have a point in that her mere existence is a game changer but not for reasons she maybe knows (she seems to be going by “I’m strong as all Hell”)
Her true value is the fact her powers outright came from a Stone.

Why not all of the above? But seriously, while I can see Carol x Valkyrie, they have not even met, so it's way too early to judge their chemistry. As for Carol x Maria, the problem there is vastly disparate power levels, never mind the fact that Maria ages while Carol doesn't. They are much more like Heterosexual Life-Partners, at least in principle.
I realize that the Mayfly–December Romance issue didn't stop Thor from making out with Jane Foster, but it at least fits with his personality (well, before having his planet blown up and watching half of the people he swore to protect die, anyway).

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Weird how disparate power levels are never a problem when a superhero is dating a non-super woman but people seldom like to see a superheroine dating a non-super guy
Nobody except the comics themselves repeatedly in the silver age ever go “well Lois lane is alright but it’d be even better if she had superpowers”

To be fair, by the time I was old enough to appreciate the problem, I don't think I'd seen one single instance of a powerful, immortal female character dating a mortal man (never mind a woman). Even now I can only think of one in recent memory: Diana with Steve Trevor. (Caveat: I haven't watched the latest season of Doctor Who.)
It seems that media is simply determined to ignore (or sugarcoat) the unfortunate implications of that scenario. So you know what, fine. If it's mutually consenting, more power to them.
There is absolutely no need for Carol to have a love interest. It's just fun to speculate about.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"We don’t have to. And we don’t have to not to.
But people love to do it

Nah, there are apparently multiple of those openings. Loki most likely used one closer to the treasure room.
