Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Some big outside threat causing humanity to band together was the end thesis of Watchmen.
Although even in Watchmen and more explicitly in the recent follow-ups, things wouldn't end so tidy.
So ehhh probably not? You might see some kind of mutual defense against aliens pact thing forming but the differences that cause people to fight and the avarice and the grudges and the whatever else aren't going to poof into dust.

Of course given the reveal, which I'm not sure whether its a spoiler or not but eh that the Snap also turned half of all the animal and vegetable life to dust, thus HALVING many types of resources and also there's going to be a manpower shortage to even get those resources I feel that overall there's going to be more fighting, not less.
There's so much more to fight over in the chaos.

Forever liveblogging the AvengersWooden Plank Studios is making Avengers comics again, I guess.
I mean, remember how Winter Soldier had Pierce try to convince World Security Councilman Singh into his side by claiming that Project Insight could prevent Pakistan from invading India? Try to imagine that in a post-Snap world. Maybe Hydra, who are still at large per Ant-Man might have taken over another country like Strucker did with Sokovia.
Pfft, no! So long as human tribalism exists, people will find reasons to kill each other.
The world might come together in mourning for, like, a day. But tomorrow, Israel and Pakistan will still both consider a stretch of land to belong to them. North Korea will still be ruled by either a crazy asshole or a different crazy asshole. Butthurt misogynists will still blame women for not having sex with them. Etc. etc.
God, just imagine the internet conspiracy theories "crunching the numbers" in the wake of The Snap. "Thanos killed more white people in the United States than black people Hey! ! WHITE PEOPLE ARE THE REAL VICTIMS OF SPACE RACISM!"

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Consider all the borderline psychotic The End Is Nigh nutters who would seize the opportunity to go murder the people that their voices mutter about. Consider the massive disruption in basic services and functions, not just because of the lack of people to do things, but because literally half of the knowledge in the world had just been wiped out.
Heck, just the effort to clean up all the now-abandoned vehicles strewn across roads, the destruction from aircraft plummeting to the ground, and so on, would be immense. And this isn't even getting into the psychological trauma of the survivors.
Instantly deleting half of all people would be unimaginably catastrophic.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"An industry professional has seen Endgame early (lucky) and has gone on the record saying the second half is "mind-blowing."
Is it me or is there misdirection going on...?
He's talking about a scene where they're taking Vision out of mothballs, souping him up, and getting him functional again. Tony blows some dust off of the Infinity Gem they recovered for him.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.I don't think we've seriously thought about what the plot of Endgame could be. It's a 3-hour movie, and we've only seen footage of the first 20 minutes. It's entirely possible that this film will be GIGANTIC, with way more plot points, scenes, and reality-warping than any of us are prepared for.
Think about it, with Infinity War we at least knew the three main locations the bulk of the action would take place in (New York, Titan, and Wakanda). With Endgame, we know NOTHING. The most we know is those white suits are called Quantum suits, which means the Quantum Realm is probably involved in some way.

I have very little in the way of things I know for certain are going to happen, and it's mostly just really broad/obvious stuff. Nebula, Rocket, Carol and Scott are joining up with the surviving Avengers, the Quantum Realm is going to be utilized in some fashion, they're going to have another go against Thanos, at least one of the OG 6 is going to die for good, and all of the people who got disintegrated in Infinity War are going to be brought back somehow. EDIT: Oh, and at least a few of the trailer lines/shots will be absent from the final movie.

(Yeah, I know it's too early to think of mutants or F4 stuff, but...3 hours is a long time.)

They undo the Snap almost immediately. Then it's just 180 straight minutes of everyone who has ever appeared in a Marvel film - not just characters, I'm talking extras too - all taking turns punching Thanos in his smug face.

The six Spider-Folk from Into the Spider-Verse find a way into the MCU's dimension just to kick Thanos' ass hard. Actually fuck it, basically any characters you like from any franchise you like cross over into the MCU just to take turns beating up Thanos.

Self-serious autistic trans gal who loves rock/metal and animation with all her heart. (she/her)They undo the snap almost immediately, the remaining three hours are a lovingly detailed chronicle of Scott’s journey, not up Thanos’ Thanus, but rather up his urethra. And going Giant Man.
Then everyone takes turns Bright slapping Thanos while Back in Black, Without Me, I Will Survive, and Staying Alive play on repeat.
Dance party credits, Steve and Bucky gonna teach these fools the motherfucking Charleston.

With regards to how the Snap will affect life in Earth, I have this question: would half of humanity being turned to dust convince humanity in general not to kill each other?
I mean, remember how Winter Soldier had Pierce try to convince World Security Councilman Singh into his side by claiming that Project Insight could prevent Pakistan from invading India? Try to imagine that in a post-Snap world. Maybe Hydra, who are still at large per Ant-Man might have taken over another country like Strucker did with Sokovia.
