Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules still apply.

  • This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
  • While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
  • Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.

If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Since Thor and now Captain America came out this year, I wanted to get what Tropers thought of the concept and execution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in general. Personally I love the idea and wonder why this idea hasn't been seriously tried before. It sorta seems to me like the DCAU in movie form (And well, ummm, with Marvel), and really 'gets' the comic book feel of a shared universe while not being completely alienating.

[up]x4 If the one who kills him isn't Gamora or Nebula, I'm gonna be pissed. Like...not that pissed, but I'm hoping it's one of them.

...To be fair, Rocket has a pretty strong claim too.

I'd probably go with some sort of "all your powers combined" deal personally.

I'd be surprised if all of the heroes don't come back to fight Thanos as there's no real reason for them to not. Killing Thanos and bringing the heroes back are two separate goals that don't rely on each other.

What he didn't realize, though, was that Ant-Man was riding on the tip of the knife, and has now infiltrated Thanos's lung.

Thanos's butt-armor was too thicc to get through so he needed a different way in.

[up] But he's in the lung already. Bit late to sneeze him out. [lol]

On a tangent, this might be because I've been rewatching EMH, but I kinda want MCU Carol to meet MCU Janet somehow.

When we're done, there won't be anything left.

Previously, on The Eternals: we learned that Angelina Jolie is in talks to appear in a lead role.

Now, rumor is The Incredible Hercules himself will be the male lead.

I never knew I wanted a movie wherein Hercules is in space (or at the very least, is fighting against/being buddies with aliens) until now. surprised grin

Isn’t there supposed to be an epic fight scene that has a shit-ton of characters?

I think that’s where the resurrected heroes come in.

I hope that report isn't accurate and Hercules isn't the MCU's first gay character...because he should be bisexual. He's totally had affairs with men and women.

I hope not, those scenes always turn into a mess.

It was fine with the first Avengers because there wasn't a lot of characters, by AOUnote  they were clearly struggling to make all the characters relevant.

While Nebula, Gamora, and Drax have the longest standing claims to defeat Thanos, and it is their primary goal in life, Thor has also caught up in reason to fight - Thanos personally killed his best friend and his brother, and saw to the destruction of half of his race.
I hope they don't pull some BS in having Stark do it.

[down]I would prefer it to be Nebula.

I wonder how they'll do fight scenes if they confront Farmer Thanos, or just in general. Does he still have the Chitauri? I wish Ebony Maw was still around.

Plenty of people have the claim for Thanos' head, but personally I'm rooting for Nebula.

Of all, I think she's the one that suffered the longest in his "care", and there's some delicious irony to the "waste of parts" being the one to deliver the killing blow.

Nice Mythology Gag too, her being the one to technically defeat Thanos in the comics.

Nebula should absolutely finish him off, though I can understand Thor and Carol doing a lot of damage as well. Team effort and stuff.

Probably but with the snap there's probably barly enough to pose a threat, same with the legions of his 'Children'

Still don't get why they couldn't have stuck with 'The Black Order' as a name

I feel like a super satisfying hit for Nebula that isn't her getting the killing blow would be for her to cut off his left hand/arm.

"Not fun, losing your arm, is it daddy?" or "Snap this you big purple bitch"

Or something.

Still yet to see any suggestions funnier than Ant-Man going up Thanos' Thanus and expanding though
