Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

You know what I realized I'm most looking forward to with the X-Men joining the MCU?
...the eventual break away from Extinction events, humans creating Sentinels to MDK mutants every twenty minutes, and life being 24/7 misery for them.
Even the Fox Films kinda fell back on that, what with Logan revealing that an evil conspiracy used genetics to secretly wipe out all mutants, and the handful we see during the movie might be the last of them, ultimately showing that even turning back time to give them a better chance only threw their destruction down the road and made people be more stealthy about it.
But with the MCU screwing with our expectations whenever they get a chance, this might be an opportunity to finally, finally break out of the circular mindset they've been defined by when it's comes to the X franchise. they might actually think of new stories for them. We might see Mutant / Human relations improve. We might at least see other heroes doing more than saying not my problem (which is more a meta thing, but writers have been making the mistake of incorporating it into the narrative when it shouldn't be).
One Strip! One Strip! If mutants are supposed to be an allegory for civil rights/race relations then I don't imagine their situation is going to improve/the circular storytelling will change until ours does.
Maybe that's what makes their story so impactful - the mutant phobia never really ends no matter how much time travel/wish fulfillment gets thrown at it, it just gets postponed.
That MML 3 speaks to me and I didn't even like those games.

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!The only way to change things is make a majority of the population into mutants.
They'll find new ways to discriminate and hate instead. Like discriminating on mutants whose appearance visibly change permanently

Every accusation by the GOP is ALWAYS a confession. The face of real life racism has changed as has the face of prejudice in general
Victories have been made, incremental and otherwise
X Men keeps going back to the death robots well though
Forever liveblogging the Avengers
Exactly. Things are still very shitty. That much is an unfortunate truth.
But with Xmen, absolutely zero progress has been made. In fact things have only gotten worse and worse for mutants, and that can't stand.
One Strip! One Strip! The human x mutant relationships can evolve without actually breaking the premise. Like, Black people still suffer a lot of prejudice, but things are certainly different now than they were in 1860 or even 1960. Things can evolve in meaningful and interesting ways without constantly falling back to the same plots. An interesting things to change is to do what Grant Morrison did in the comics in the early 2000s. To eventually start portraying mutants as its own culture, with its own communities and internal dynamics. Admittedly, that would pull off in the MCU, due the time scale.
The sad thing to me is that portraying these evolution would be much easier to do in the Fox series. There the mutants wouldn't have to keep up with other heroes and, thus, wouldn't need to follow the more or less real time passage of time the MCU has. They could, and had, have flashbacks and time skips, which would allow for a much more organic evolution than what MCU will be able to.
All Im hearing is we should summon more Death Robot to nurder mutants. That will solve the problem!
Every accusation by the GOP is ALWAYS a confession.I was discussing J Jonah Jameson with someone who argued that there was no real way to fit him into the MCU. So how would you fit him in though? I could see him being a Cable news pundit (have his channel be called the Jackal News Network as a nod to both JJJ's Spider-Ham counterpart and the villain). I'd also keep his position towards mutants as well (as far as I know, he's pro-mutant rights), just to show that Everyone Has Standards .
The Spider-Man PS 4 game made him a loudmouth Alex Jones-style podcaster. Just go with that.
Jameson would be fine should we ever get characters with a more "regular person" perspective. Which we might soon, or might not (there are no revealed plans for a new hero with an everyday person's perspective, but we're getting hints that Kamala's coming sometime soon, plus there's always the next Ant-Man movie, maybe).
But I doubt he'll be showing up in Far From Home, besides maybe something similar to Amazing Spider-Man's "shows up in a text message" scene. That movie takes place halfway across the planet, away from any good places to introduce him in a meaningful way.
That said, I could totally see him showing up in Endgame, as part of the world. "DUST TO DUST! AVENGERS CAUSE PANIC ACROSS THE GLOBE! pg 4." Or as a pundit, talking about how badly they've failed, to set the stage for how gloomy the post-snap world is. Something of an Early-Bird Cameo, essentially.

I'll admit that Angelina Jolie would make a pretty damn good Sersi
. And Disney already has a good working relationship with her (especially now that she's doing a second Maleficent movie) and it's good to see that they aren't afraid of hiring a woman older than 40 for a lead role (although I don't know if they would have done so if she wasn't, you know, Angelina Jolie).
Dan Olsen is always a treasure.
