Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I'm actually expecting the opposite: Rocket, now that his friends are all dead, is going to actually get serious and try to straighten himself out.
Leviticus 19:34He still has Thor, who he forged a bit of a connection to
Unless he’s pissed off about the go for the head thing, Thor can be his big broad large shoulder to cry on
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI want to see her chat with Carol so it's less of a Crack Pairing.
Anyway, late to the Stucky discussion but it also grates my gears incredibly when characters with heterosexual love interests are described as exclusively homosexual and somehow lying about their interests in their canon love interests by fandom. It's straight-up bi erasure; having them not be as interested in that particular character is one thing, but it's in rather poor taste to remove their capacity for interest in the opposite gender altogether when canon shows otherwise, unless it's explicitly stated to be a straight-up (heh) AU.

I desperately want Carol and Valkyrie to interact in Endgame. It would be a crying shame if they somehow never managed to meet.
People insisting that characters who have canonically been attracted to the opposite gender are gay, and that said attraction was not real, will never not piss me off. It is just such blatant bi-erasure. I see it all the time, certainly not just in the MCU fandom (...the Supergirl fandom comes to mind, for the love of God, just let Kara be bi!) and I wish people would just. stop doing that. It also just feels kinda.... shitty, I guess, to just erase a character's canonical instances of attraction like that.

When we're done, there won't be anything left. From what I've seen, asexual and aromantic people have it even worse.
EDIT: This was not meant to belittle biphobia, it's still a real and serious problem, just pointing out another example of the LGBT community not being so accepting of their own.

Eh, I've seen instances where people in the LGBT community deliberately exclude asexuals/aromantics, because they believe that lack of sexual/romantic attraction isn't the same thing as attraction to the opposite sex and believe that asexuals/aromantic somehow "have it better" than others in the LGBT community.
One of the common arguments tends to be "ace people aren't LGBT because they don't experience systemic oppression". Of course, that ignores that they totally do, that ace people only relatively recently became public knowledge, and that saying that is exactly the kind of thing that CREATES systemic oppression.
As a general rule, activism is not one big, happy family.
Thinking the world is divided into "Majority Demographic" and "Everyone else" is how we get logic like, "Yes, we whitewashed the Ancient One but we also made the character into a woman so it evens out! It's a lateral move, really!"

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.One of the most depressing things about activism is the way valid causes will often throw each other under the bus so that their just cause gets attention and resolution first, instead of fighting together for stronger effect.
You find a lot of petty feuds that boil down to "we have it worse, so stop whining." Or "this cause is supposed to be about me, stop ruining it with your problems." Which just helps the crowd who wants everyone to stop talking about anything "political" get what they want, because the people who should to speaking up are doing half their work for them.
But like Dr. King said, an injustice anywhere is an injustice everywhere.

Trans and ace people definitely suffer a lot of abuse and exclusion from TER Fs and acephobes. It’s awful. And the worst of it is people claiming “oh, we want to protect women, that’s why demeaning and endangering trans women is good” and I just. Rage aneurysm.

Never said they aren't heroic. Just that they all need each other to balance them, and even that isn't easy. Without the others to curb his tendency to want to take things from people purely for the sake of having them, as shown with his love of cybernetic limbs and the theft of the batteries in GOTG 2.
Without the others, especially with how they are gone, Rocket is gonna do something really stupid.
