Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

“I think the MCU is the only continuity where there is more justification for "Avengers" name than Wasp's "lol it sounds cool."”
But she wasn’t wrong
Forever liveblogging the AvengersThey should probably just start with the Giant-Size X-Men. If you're going to hit the ground running with the X-Men, an international team makes far more sense to the central metaphor than 5 WASPs.*

So, I first got interested in the MCU when I watched the first Iron Man film on DVD. But seeing Thor in 2011 is what really made me a true fan of the MCU.
That said, I have a quick question: how were you first exposed to the MCU in general?

He/His/Him. No matter who you are, always Be Yourself.I watched Iron Man after it came out. My first MCU theater experience is The Incredible Hulk.
Continue writing our story of peace.- shrugs* The first time a friend showed me Ironman and I actually didn't like it. Basically, I liked the first half of the movie and was disappointed that the cave part of the story was over that fast.
Over time, I happened to see movies in the TV and then I somehow ended up seeing The Winter Soldier (I think because I like The First Avenger so much) and Got G in theatres. That's when they had me.

I didn't have any interest in the MCU at first. Then when Avengers was coming out I was all "Gee, this sounds like a real big deal." and saw that in theaters. Even though I didn't have all the context, I was impressed enough to go back and watch all the films I missed and catch all subsequent ones in theaters.
You cannot firmly grasp the true form of Squidward's technique!I think Avengers being upcoming made me realize that the movies were related to each other and I went and caught up with them before Avengers came out
I also bought a black and white esssentials trade to get an off base idea of what to expect
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI was probably one of the five fans of Iron Man at the time (I was like 11 and didn't know about Civil War, I just liked his design) and wanted to see his movie purely on its own. Then I watched the rest because I was interested in the crossover aspect.
This song needs more love.I started watching from the beginning, but I didn't really get into it until The Avengers. I was fan of Joss Whedon, having loved Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Firefly, and Dollhouse, and wondered how he could possibly make an Avengers film. And yet he pulled it off.

I first sat down and watched Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers back in 2015, probably not too long before/after I saw Age of Ultron in theaters. Fast forward to 2017 and Got G 2 frankly blew my mind. Then I saw Captain America: Civil War and Doctor Strange on Netflix and then Homecoming on DVD and then Thor: Ragnarok in theaters and I guess by that point my compulsion to catch up with the rest of the MCU had truly taken shape.
Self-serious autistic trans gal who loves rock/metal and animation with all her heart. (she/her)First watched The First Avenger and Thor on DVD, and then the Avengers in the theater to see what happened.
After those movies, we didn't really pay much attention unless they were on TV but then the Winter Soldier hit and my family and I had to see what was next, resulting in watching Age of Ultron and every subsequent film (except Ant-Man because absolutely no one could muster up the interest to bother and GOTG vol. 2 for reasons I can't remember right now) since in theaters.
Me and a friend were talking of a funny way they could integrate the X-Men into the MCU.
It could be done via Dead Pool, since he's constantly Breaking the Fourth Wall, do some story that shows Deadpool discovering how to cross dimensions, and he brings a bunch of the other X-Men characters in with him, and as a result of the dimension-crossing, their actors change (but Dead pool remains as Ryan Reynolds cause he had some kind of dimension crossing protective gear on).
Yeah, it's stupid, but with Dead pool it wouldn't seem too out of place.
Like creepy stories? Check out my book! The funny thing is when the MCU first started, I didn't even realize it was supposed to be a thing.
I watched Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk just cause they looked interesting (even though I didn't care for Ang Lee's Hulk).
It wasn't until around either Iron Man 2 or Thor that I became aware that this was a whole film universe, and by that time Avengers was on the way. Or it may have been Captain America: The First Avenger.
Whatever the case, I was lucky that I'd watch nearly any comic book movie around that time, cause that meant there were no holes in my viewing knowledge. Haven't missed one movie since then.
One Strip! One Strip!I’ve seen all the movies but haven’t seen Inhumans, some of the netflixes, Cloak and Dagger, and I’m still making my way through season 2 of Runaways
Forever liveblogging the AvengersYeah. I skipped out on Inhumans, Seen all of Agents of Shield, Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist (yeah....
) and The Punisher.
Haven't caught Runaways or Cloak and Dagger all that much however.
One Strip! One Strip!
