Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

So, I've been thinking about a posible Secret Invasion storyline, and I believe it could work even with the Skrulls being good. I mean, only Carol and Fury know they're good, the Kree could use that to their advantage. Make it that the Skrulls are hiding within earth from them, and they telling earth that they're being invaded. And hell, one could make the humans the villians as all aliens from their view wants to invade earth.
There's potential for a great Bait-and-Switch plot there.

People seem really hung up on Secret Invasion.
Why this particular event?
Forever liveblogging the AvengersIf certain people end up killed off in Finity Endgame, having imposters of them show up a la that thing that happened in Secret Invasion would be a good kick in the gut for the world and audience.
But I still want the Skrulls a thousand miles away from any sort of Secret Invasion plot.
It was a bad look then that refugees that lost their home were trying to infiltrate and take Earthmerica's and its if anything gotten worse.
Fifth Column stories just don't work the same as they once did.

Forever liveblogging the AvengersYep, EMH is the reason. The secret invasion was maybe my favourite storyline in it. I mean, it had everything, mistrust, surprising twists, Cap breaking out of prison and I think one of my favourite episodes, Cap having to deal with the people who used to trust him without question calling him a traitor for something he didn't even do. I always wanted a more elaborate version of this storyline. Preferable WITH Cap, which is one of the reasons why I want them to lock Chris Evans into a contract now and do the storyline before it is too late.
I guess crisis crossovers are easier to adapt? Civil War was done in a single movie, some of them are bad (well, I would include comics Civil War in that so maybe not), some have too many characters that haven't been introduced yet... I'm not entirely sure how people have landed on Secret Invasion quite frequently though; the news that Captain Marvel includes Skrulls was kind of a mark in its favour but actually seeing the film kind of negates that. I've also seen Annihilation thrown around a bit, Dark Reign occasionally.
An adaptation of one of the cosmic war storylines might be an interesting idea with the cosmic status quo disrupted by Thanos.
I think though that you'd be limited in what you can do with that because a lot of the mini-franchises wouldn't be served getting stuck in space.
Maybe a mini arc for the cosmic based properties.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersThere are a couple of reasons why I landed on Secret Invasion (or is it Secret wars?) other then me liking the storyline in EMH.
1. It is something they can built up really well. Like, they can just do a Marvel movie without worrying about any kind of arc but then throw in an after credit scene revealing that character x has been replaced for a while, having the whole audience guessing who will be next and if those are the only characters which have been replaced and then wrap it up in one big movie (or two, if you do one about the prison break and then a second one about the battle on earth). It doesn't even have to be a three phase arc, they can do it in one arc.
2. It is a new kind of channel for the heroes. I mean, I guess you still might get the big action set-piece in the end, but beforehand you can have a lot of smaller fights and revelations. Worked with The Winter Soldier, can work here too. And the paranoia would be so much worse, because EVERYONE could be a Skrull, no matter how much we trust him or her.
3. And it would affect all characters in the long time in a way no other arc would. I mean, how would you feel discovering that you closest friend was kidnapped and imprisoned somewhere and you didn't even know?
I suggest possibly using Dire Wraiths or Space Phantomuses instead.
And also use the Kree trying to push the narrative that its Skrulls.

Forever liveblogging the AvengersThe Ultimate universe managed to get a whole (bad) trilogy out of the approach of Gah Lak Tus
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI kind of hope they taking step back from the big cosmic threats for a bit and focus more on recurring Earth-based ones.
This song needs more love.T He issue with Earth based threats is that they usually don't require the full might of the Avengers.
Btw, Captain Marvel has passed the 800 million mark...faster than I thought, but the movie seems to have legs. The week to week drop if you go by weekdays seems to be at around 50%

I think the MCU is the only continuity where there is more justification for "Avengers" name than Wasp's "lol it sounds cool."

Continue writing our story of peace.

Well, there is time. There are so many properties Marvel studios can explore.
