Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Again, you don't need such an elaborate explanation.
Just have some characters in one movie notice that the number of people turning up with superpowers keeps increasing, and that for a lot of them there doesn't seem to be any obvious origin for their powers; they were either born with them or suddenly developed them one day. Then have Professor X or someone like him say that mutant powers are just the natural result of human evolution, that there have been sporadic cases of mutants throughout history, but now human evolution has reached the point where mutants are appearing in large numbers, presaging a time when they replace regular humanity altogether. News that makes quite a few people freak right the f*ck out.
On a purely conceptual level, one of the advantages of mutants is that you don't need an elaborate explanation for someone having superpowers. Instead of having to say "X character's parents were in Y position to get affected by an Infinity Stone years ago, and so they were born with powers," you can just say "X is a mutant."
I'm not sure I'm totally down with the idea of having mutants be yet another thing that's actually about the Infinity Stones, especially now that the "Infinity Saga" is ending. It keeps the universe from fully growing in new directions.
Have we entertained the thought that, since Endgame is going to involve time-travel shenanigans (right?) maybe once the Avengers revert the snap they go back (forward?) to the moment they left and they notice that something is no quite OK? Like all of a sudden there's this shitload of powered people and everyone's like "what, these idiots? Yeah, they are mutants, have been around for decades, where have you guys been?"
Honestly, the discussion is pointless. Whatever Feige will do with the X-men, he certainly won't just shove them into the MCU. He will first carefully wrap up the current franchise and then do some equally carefully planning.
I am calling this now: We will get to see the Fantastic Four before we get to see any X-men in the MCU. At most there will be a Deadpool movie full of comments about his changed circumstances.
In regards to the Maximoff's parentage: just wait until the Sliding Timescale makes it plausible for known Holocaust survivor Magneto to be their grandfather, if that's not already happened.
This place is careless.Speaking of the FF, who should the villain of the first film be? Whi Le Dr. Doom is their most popular villain, I'd have them start off against Mole Man, who was their first foe in the comics. Doom should be saved for the sequel so we dont have to cram too much in the first film.
Annihilus
Entire movie is a flashback to what they’ve been doing in the negative zone
“You’ve been missing for decades!”
“Time sure is weird in negative space!”
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI still say the best way to introduce mutants is to have them trickle in gradually, rather than instantly dumping the entire mutant situation onto the MCU in a single moment.
Have characters who are mutants appear individually in various movies. Mystique and Rogue in Captain Marvel. Whirlwind in Ant Man. Wolverine or something in the Black Widow movie. Etc.
Then finally, establish that people like Ross are trying to control mutants, and fearmongers are turning them into pariahs and a persecuted class. Cue X-Men movie.

Well, I am sure nothing regarding the Mutants will happen until the current Mutant franchise is wrapped up.
I just hope that if they tackle the F4, they won't waste too much time on the origin story and immediately introduce them as a Familie of Explorers.

I mean that's happening in only four months at the latest and that's assuming New Mutants doesn't get banished to streaming. So I'm not really sure it matters.

This song needs more love.I think we'll see mutant at a time, someone like Wolverine shows up at first because everyone is familiar with him(speaking of which, who should play him for his appearance in the cinematic universe?)

have a listen and have a link to my discord server
I don't know, but I wouldn't want to be that actor. It will be nigh impossible to do something that measures up to Jackman's performance. Say what you want about the X-Men movies, they at least nailed that.

As much as I want to see other Xmen he's practically the face of the Xmen for most people(along with Cyclops professer X,Storm,Magneato ) so including him as the first Xmen makes the most amount of sense

have a listen and have a link to my discord serverEh. I mean wasn't Spider-Man considered the face of the Marvel Universe (along with the X-Men) before the MCU started? I'd prefer if the MCU started with introducing the lesser known mutants first tbh. Considering it's kinda been their modus operandi for a while now.
When we're done, there won't be anything left.If Feige is smart (and he usually is) he won't touch Wolverine for a while. If they introduce him now there will just be resentment because he isn't the "real" wolverine. Wait at least five years and the Wolverine fans will be happy with getting him at all.
Plus, if they reboot the X-men, I want to see the X-men, not Wolverine and friends. And that is not an uncommon sentiment.
@Beatman 1: I know, and it's a real pity.
FOX has already shat on the Dark Phoenix once, now they're gonna do it again, and we won't have a MCU adaptation of that story for a looooong time.
New Mutants, meanwhile, is a completely unknown variable that actually tries to do something innovative, and I was really rooting for it.
But such is life.
