Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I would find that to be... anti-climatic. It's like saying that Peter B. Parker and Gwen Stacy should remain behind with Miles Morales instead of going back to their home dimension, and then sacrifice themselves to save the multiverse. Heroic? Yes. Satisfying? No.
When you look at a character like Tony Stark, he has a life beyond being a superhero. A future wife, possibility of having kids, a company. His major flaw is that he feels personally responsible for protecting the world that he couldn't trust others to handle it without him. Always going back to being Iron Man to atone for his sins. To have Stark die would, in my opinion, permanently defeat the message that Iron Man 3 has. That Tony doesn't have to be stuck with Iron Man if he cannot continue.
Heroes do not have constantly sacrifice themselves for a glorious send-off. They could just retire, become mentors, find different careers, spend time with family. Stuff that is relatable to real life. That makes Marvel Marvel in many ways.

~Theokal3: Probably photoshopped. Honestly, the burden of proof is on them, not on you. If they can't convincingly make a point, you're under no obligation to argue it. If there really are shenanigans going on with user reviews, someone will report on it who does not have a blatant conflict of interest.
I would be satisfied if Tony and Steve "retire" and get happy endings, rather than dying.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Tony has been bad at retiring so far even when he very much wants to
Steve has given no indication that he’d ever stop fighting and AOU implied he’d be afraid to
Thor needs to retire to help set up New Asgard so he’s good
Forever liveblogging the AvengersSteve could go back in time to spend the rest of his life with Peggy. Tony could willingly pass the torch, knowing that the new Avengers have the Earth's back. It's not impossible.
Alternatively, Tony's injuries could finally catch up to him and force him to take disability. The films have made a consistent point of showing him dealing with the physical trauma of his lifestyle.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"The movies won’t be able to retire them without explaining why they won’t be involved in further Marvel events. It’s going to look really weird if Galactus starts eating the moon but Tony’s just napping on the beach. Even with a game-ending injury he still has all his remote armors.

“Uh, Carol? Can you take care of this?”
“Alright but you owe me dinner for interrupting his”
Forever liveblogging the AvengersWell, Stark Industries is still making tech for the Avengers. That could be replaced by Wakanda, I suppose, but just because Tony's not heroing doesn't mean he isn't contributing, and it would make for some good cameo opportunities.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I think it is possible to retire Tony. He is OLD. (at least he is really getting too old to fly around in an iron suit. He is constantly holding his left arm now). Retiring Cap is a little bit more difficult, but frankly, he deserves to "come home" finally.
I disagree that killing off Tony would undermine his arc at all. For one, Tony's arc is not about wanting to retire, it is about wanting to leave a positive legacy. And what could be more positive than rescuing half of the universe?

I wonder if Thanos could have accidently wiped himself out too. Also, I wonder why the clothes of the people being dusted (i prefer that term) were wiped away too, probably because they wanted a more elaborate special effect than just people disappearing.

Thanos is a stupid asshole trying to prove a point to a bunch of ghosts. He could do literally anything with the Infinity Gauntlet but he has to do exactly what he said would have worked on Titan so that all those dead people will know he's the smartest, bestest guy ever and they all should have listened to him.
My various fanfics.According to Deadline, James Gunn is directing Guardians 3 again.
On one hand, this is what they should've done months ago. It's probably the last time Gunn will be involved in the MCU, and chances are his ideas for Phase IV won't be implemented in the wake of the FOX deal shaking up those plans.
On the other hand, the right-wing is going to get real nasty in their smear campaign against the movie and Disney, even more so than Captain Marvel. Normally that wouldn't be a problem, but what if one the trolls have a gun?
"The devil's got all the good gear. What's God got? The Inspiral Carpets and nuns. Fuck that." - Liam GallagherSorry. With the situation at New Zealand still fresh I couldn't resist.

>: The Living Tribunal? Why him in particular.
Because story originally featured the abstract gods of the marvel universe and so far none of them have appeared,Endgame should feature at least one of them in some way
