Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Nah, I think that is vastly overstating it. Stephen and Tony are way too different characters once you look past the surface. Tony is full of self-loathing and really, really concerned with his legacy...also, he is full of daddy issues. Stephen doesn't have any daddy issues, thinks extremely highly of himself and his main concern is the desire for immortality (hence him wanting fame so much). The only thing they really have in common is that they are control freaks with a questionable sense of humour.
We of course there’s untapped potential.
Strange is currently the only movie at the moment that has magic.
And not shitty “Science so advanced it might as well be magic” from the Asgardians, no real genuine, honest magic where you can bend reality with just a wave of your finger & a little grit.
The movie has so much potential that not living up to it would be a Goddamn tragedy.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I just came back from watching Captain Marvel, and dang. I really enjoyed it! Very solid movie, one of the better origin stories, I think. I don't know if it cracks my top 5 MCU movies, but it's definitely in my top 10. Also, is it bad that the first end credit scene hyped me more for Endgame than any of the trailers did?
When we're done, there won't be anything left. There’s a reason why people say has a better showing of magic than Strange.
Barring the Bargain scene, Stranges magic was rather shite for the most part. It was just martial artists scribbling orange light over their hands.
Everyone used the same orange trick over & over again. It was boring as fuck.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."That was when I noticed that basically everyone has the same "vaguely MMA" fighting style and I was sick of it.
My various fanfics. One thing the end credit scene sort of does that the trailer doesn't is establish that the heroes are actually doing something. In the trailer, Steve and Nat have some sort of plan. This scene establishes a reasonable chunk of the Avengers are together, they managed to find Fury's pager and Marvel manages to find them. I wonder if Scott or Carol finds them first?

Yeah, while I didn't quite notice this myself before hearing it, Dr. Strange had the issue that a lot of its magic was basically just stuff like "conjure weapon to attack enemy" and what have you. With Infinity War, there's much more of a proper Wizard Duel going on.
Leviticus 19:34Just got back from Captain Marvel. Loved it. It met or exceeded all of my expectations, and the twist was very well done. My only disappointment is that the trailers gave away too much of the story. Not all, and there are some cleverly hidden bits, but enough that I wasn't agape with wonder when Carol started blowing up starships. Instead, I was thinking, "Oh, it's this part now. Cool."
I won't necessarily call it the best Marvel movie. That'd be too much of a stretch. But it absolutely did not disappoint.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Yeah, but it calls into question a lot of speculation about Phase 4. Like, who will the major villains be if not the Skrulls. Or is that another deception?
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Well, it certainly leaves open the possibility of the Kree showing up again, although that continuity is going to be a little tangled.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Yeah, I think we can still get Veranke and her Secret Invasion out of this premise. The Skrulls' home planet was destroyed in Secret Invasion too. The only difference is that Galactus did it, not the Kree. The villains for Secret Invasion are basically religious extremists looking to claim Earth as their Promised Land in the wake of disaster. #NotAllSkrulls.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Secret Invasion also had Cosmo the Spacedog look after a group of Skrull refugees who wanted no part in the war if I recall correctly.
This song needs more love.Saw Captain Marvel. Thought it was pretty good. And that's good enough, because it doesn't need to be exceptional.
There was a sly little Nextwave reference in Monica's taste in outerwear.
We already have a thread for spoilery discussions on Captain Marvel
, so please take them there.
Thank you and goodnight.
Yeah. I mean you guys don't want to give away the part where Carol totally saves the day do you?
Whoops. Spoilers.
But seriously, don't spoil shit here.
One Strip! One Strip!

With Dr. Strange, it wasn't bad, but it felt very much like a rehash of Iron Man, but with magic instead of powered armor. It was a good rehash of Iron Man, though.
