Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

It's a Man's Man's Man's World
by James Brown. You know, that song that plays during all those perfume commercials with Kiera Knightley.
Nobody is blaming you for disliking it; at least you had the decency to actually see it before you declared it awful. The ones we're calling morons are those who deemed the movie SJW crap and talked about boycotting it when it wasn't even out yet. As long as you don't do that, you won't be classified as part of them.
…Dayum. I only knew the first few words of that song, but it's, err… a song from the '60s for sure. "Yeah, men do everything and invent everything… But you're still important, girls, we swear!"

Regardless of my final opinion of the movie, I still have a lot of respect for what it and Brie Larson are trying to do and I do think it and Black Panther should've happened sooner. I guess we're gunning for seeing it this weekend.
Self-serious autistic trans gal who loves rock/metal and animation with all her heart. (she/her)In the sense that a loud but ubiquitous despite it's size portion of the fanbase had taken upon themselves to slam and attempt to discredit the movie before and after release for frivolous reasons, often without actually seeing it, even though by all respects it's ultimately your standard good-but-not-amazing action flick?
Sure, I can see that.
Solo is one of the big recent examples I can think of for people abusing Rotten Tomatoes before this one, and got me really paying attention to how broken the user response system is.
Luckily, due to Marvel's pull, a good marketing campaign, word of mouth and the amount of spotlight that the negative portion's actions have shone upon that negativity (and not the movie), it's unlikely this will has Solo's effect of the dark side of the fanbase screwing themselves and the rest of us out of future nice things.

Yeah this basically comes down to people being mad at larson for being a feminist and being the star of a female-led film. I mean, i don't think that's going to affect the film's box office or critical reception that much, but it's still sad how many of these people can't get over the fact that a woman exists and was critical of something.
We kept it civil though, we even joked about our differing opinions by pretending to bash each other on the head with our textbooks if we ever went too crazy.
...... Hey its better than starting a fight in the middle of class at 10 in the morning.
This all actually just happened 2 hours ago.
Edit: Huh he also used the whole "Brie hates white men" bit too.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."We don’t & that was first time since the semester started that we actually talked to each other let alone met.
I was just walking around class telling people I saw the movie & then he spoke up to give his thoughts on the film.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Seriously that annoys me. I mean, people who hated Last Jedi for being alledgedly SJW were obnoxious already, but at least they were making their arguments and expressing their annoyance after the movie came out. Here, people started talking about boycotting the movie and calling it the worst SJW thing ever before it even came out based on the main actress being a feminist activist and doing some clumsy comments. Even though the biggest clue the movie might be influenced by that was that short "Her/Hero" thing, and Marvel has generally done a good job at providing movies with "okay" quality at worst.

Still can't tell if calling Larson a "rib" is some weirdly sexist Bible reference I've never heard used before, or just a bizarre misspelling.
