Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I saw that Zathura movie in theaters when I was little and when one of the kids fell out into space I couldn't stand to watch any more and had to be taken out of the theater.

Self-serious autistic trans gal who loves rock/metal and animation with all her heart. (she/her)You babies. When I was ten, my dad let my siblings and me watch Chopper Chicks in Zombietown. It was awesome. The only movie I've walked out on was Grumpier Old Men, because it was a terrible movie. (Also, Cabin Boy, but that was because there was a projector malfunction. But also because it was terrible.)

Y'know, I suppose there are a lot of positive reviews for Captain Marvel, but actually reading the reviews few of them actually seem... positive about the movie. It seems to be topping out at "It's OK, but it's not really super good."
A high RT score doesn't hurt, but does it help when even the positive reviews don't seem terribly enthusiastic?
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectYeah, I noticed, but I am kind of puzzled by the reviews, because they all seem to contradict each other. I haven't read too much of them because I don't want to get spoiled (I won't be able to watch the movie before Monday, sadly), but one review says that Brie Larson and her character is great, the next says that she is "too wooden", one review praises the cinematography, the next says that it has no style, one says that the movie is different from the usual MCU movies, the next said that it hits too many familiar beats, one praises the female to female friendship, the next says the movie isn't feminist enough, one is all over the allegory and strong themes of the movie, the next complains about the lack of such a thing….
I mean, did those people all watch the same movie???????
I'm watching it Saturday, along with my son, my neighbor, and his son. It's going to be a photon blast.... HA!
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"

Feel old yet? 'Cause I remember watching Thor when it came out in the theater
