Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

It'll die down as the trolls move on to the next thing to rage about, but there's a difference between that and the trolls admitting they were wrong.
There will be people who get won over by the actual movie certainly, but with maybe a handful of rare exceptions they won't be from the core group of trolls who are dedicated to hating on the movie.
The film will mostly suffer a steep drop in the second week because Marvel movies nearly always do. They tend to be very top-lastig.
And the trolls won't stop anytime soon. This isn't just about Captain Marvel, it is about the future of the MCU as a whole. They are convinced it is in danger, so they won't stop raging about it anytime soon.

There are no troll movement capable making movie get such low scores for expectation. Majority people are reasonable if movie is good it will be a knowledged.
Honestly most backslash comes from shill media's, if these were more honest Bri could say whatever she wanted and noone would care (much) and give CM benefit of doubt from get to go.

"You can tell Captain Marvel isn't going to be very good by the way reviewers are bending over backwards to avoid this conclusion." — Actual, real quote from a famous conservative pundit.
Like holy shit how does a human being get their head that far up their own ass?

There's a recent Forbes article stating that self-driving cars are more likely to hit people with darker skin color. The article itself mentions that the reason for this - the cars are programmed to see darker colors as non-human objects, seeing white as the default. For some time, facial recognition software was also programmed the same way.
When I saw the article, the top reaction was hundreds of "laugh" reacts, and many of the top comments were from people suggesting that non-white people were looking for things to be offended by, despite no one doing that, and again, the article mentioning the reasoning for why that sad trend exists.
I bring that up to say this: just look around the internet - bigots and hateful people will jump on pretty much any chance, unprompted, to tear down disadvantaged people and pretend they're making things up.
It's easy to shift the blame to "the media", but let's try to keep some personal accountability in all of this. Hell, I decided to follow Forbes, The Economist, and other sources precisely because they lean more to the American Right wing and I wanted to break my bubble. But look in the comments and any article that out of lock-step with the new far-right, the comments talk about how those sources are caving or being taken over by the Left wing. Just more "I disagree with objective reality, statistics, opinion, observation, etc., so therefore the media must be the problem."

Far right? There is only few of them and they are far too busy stockpile weapons, plans for apocalypse and beating antifa to to troll movie sites.
In other hand even majority of left knows there is practically no media that doesn't public fake news and/or isn't partisan.

As for how well Captain Marvel is going to do, it's apparently tracking for a $350 million global opening.
Given that it's production budget was $152 million and the general guideline is that a movie needs to make twice it's budget to be considered profitable, that just about puts it above water after the opening weekend alone.
I don't think there's been a movie in the MCU proper that's been outright bad. Thor 2, IM 2 & 3 have plenty of flaws but they aren't terrible. Just... Bleh.
