Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I am not really grousing about what the trolls are doings…at least, not anymore. since it is pretty obvious at this point that Captain Marvel will soar further, faster, higher than originally expected, I am half amused by the crazy conspiracy theories they come up with, half I want to draw attention to it so that they can't go in half a year and claim that "see, Marvel does it correctly, there was no controversy whatsoever surrounding Captain Marvel".

x4 Huh, apparently the art was done by Scott Benson from Night in the Woods. Neat.
Arg...yes, thanks, I corrected it.
I am not kidding there, btw. Naturally box office predictions are not a precise science, but it really looks like Captain Marvel will do extremely well. At this point I wouldn't bet against the notion of it becoming another billion movie. I wouldn't bet on it either, but I won't dismiss the notion.
I predict Captain Marvel will land somewhere between Wonder Woman and Black Panther in terms of success, so between "great" and "ludicrous". I could see it breaking a billion at the high end, but I'd be surprised if it doesn't at least get to 800 million.

Yeah, at least 800 million, possible just past a billion is my prediction, too. Everything seems to be falling in place for the movie. It has the whole month practically on its own, it is the first big movie out of the gate, people a really hungry for an MCU movie particular, Ao S fans have been on withdrawal for a year now and really, really need their fix, so they will go for a little bit of Coulson in a heartbeat, it is the first MCU movie which gets released after Stan Lee's death, and in general, there is just a lot of buzz around it. Negative buzz from the haters, but also a lot of positive buzz from those who have seen the movie. It is also bound to pick up some extra viewers towards the end of the run with it overlaps with Endgame (Black Panther had a sudden jump in viewers when Infinity War got released).
I’m pretty sure that’s what’s going to happen. I mean, the film isn’t going to be this massive triumph of cinema, it’s probably going to be a fun comic book film (which given how many Dork Age periods Carol Danvers has had in comics makes this a massive improvement off the bat). But the bar is clearly going to be set so if this isn’t a massive life changing film it will be crap.
I mean, there’s no way this film is gonna win in the court of public opinion. This is the only film I can think of in recent memories ripped apart as both a straw liberal fantasy (because of Brie Larson’s statements) and a military bootlicking exercise (because Brie Larson visited an Air Force base to you know, prepare to play an Air Force pilot).
I was already planning to see this movie anyway if just out of curiosity, but now I actively wanna go see it just to give all these morons the middle finger. I mean, seriously, we know next to NOTHING about this movie, it isn't out yet, and yet people are already yelling about how it's Marvel going "woke", despite nothing in the trailer suggesting so.

lol...I am the same...I went from "if the reviews are good, I might see it" to "I ensure that I will see it" to "I will be there in the first week" just because of those idiots.
Well, partly because I like what I hear about the movie and I just know that they will try to ruin it for everyone by spreading spoilers all over the net at the first opportunity.
Apparently the a HE Ro was already to much for them.

They are still building on their big conspiracy theory. So other than that apparently a lot of theatres have decided to run Captain Marvel on as many screens as possible now they are also not having early sales for the few movies which are on that day. So basically they are behaving like they always behave when a big movie gets released and it is a big conspiracy to force everyone to watch Captain Marvel.
Oh, and Captain Marvel is destroying comic book stores too. Because of course she does.
Edited by Swanpride on Mar 4th 2019 at 1:51:24 AM
I wish Captain Marvel would destroy these assholes.
That's destruction I'd be ok with.
Sure, they'd be right about her destroying something, but that's a hit I'm willing to take to reduce the number of assholes in the world.
One Strip! One Strip! The irony is that currently Captain Marvel is doing extremely well in comics sales.
The latest weird development has been fanboys pushing Alita as the “true” female-led film to support, which... okay? It’s apparently an adequate movie. Too bad this new support is coming well after its premiere so the film doesn’t have much chance to recoup its lost budget.
I’m annoyed that people are taking Youtubers as expert.
I recently had an argument about someone about a separate topic & they linked me to some Youtuber as if they are supposed to be some kind of expert.
Even worse the person they linked to had no views or subscribers, why the fuck should I listen to these people about such serious topics in the first place?

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Well, there are also reasonable voices, and I stumbled over two which I feel are worth listening to. This one, because he calls out all the sexist BS which is baked into the so called controversy:
And this one is a little bit less aware about the political context, but has some really good points regarding Marvel's way of marketing movies.

Samuel L. Jackson knows what's what
:
The first one looks interesting (especially since I noticed the "Not Really" bubble), but the second one looks like it's using the phrase "SJW" seriously. Please tell me they are not or they are using it ironically or something.

I saw the full video, and while I like it, it leaves itself more open for those trolls to counter it.
