Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Not sure about the merits of that one - just rewatched it and the score didn’t stand out to me at all. Really, the only superhero movie soundtracks that have made am impression on me are X-Men First Class (great use of leitmotifs) and Winter Soldier.
Still, glad BP is doing well.

I will only believe when animated movies are regularly nominated for best picture.
Spider-Verse was easily better than half of what did get nominated.

This song needs more love. Some of the voters speaking anonymously said even they thought Spiderverse should've been up for Best Picture.
Which is really weird to hear considering whats normally leaked about the Academy's view of animated movies.

Okay, so apparently, the part that I think of as her theme is apparently just a section of the Casino Brawl track. Seriously? I totally thought she had a whole song to herself, but no, it's just a weird little aside, apparently. Her bit starts at 2:33.
Any nomination would be better than Green Book or Bo Rhap.
Still, at least Spider-Verse beat out Incredibles 2 and BP got three awards under its belt.

Self-serious autistic trans gal who loves rock/metal and animation with all her heart. (she/her)Mahershala Ali was notably more enthusiastic about every other film that won an award other than his own. Probably because they lied to him and hid the creation of the movie from the family of the man he was portraying...
In other news, I'm very interested in watching Roma now. And most of the other winners (excepting visual editing for Bo Rhap) were by general consensus well justified.
So basically this was the Oscars equivalent of ending on Thanos' snap.
To be honest, I thought Roma or Bohemian Rhapsody would win. And I figured a split in the vote would favor BP, ASIB or Black Klansman, but I thought BP would be more acceptable than the latter. But instead it went to Green Book. Which sucks.
Spike Lee winning Best Adapted Screenplay was great though, and he was the star of the ceremony. Him bantering with Streisand and Jackson. And so cool that ITSV won.
I thought BP had a chance when it won Production Design.
Lee won a Lifetime Achievement Oscar too. And to me an Oscar is an Oscar. It all counts. It's his first competitive Oscar win no doubt. Similar I guess to Orson Welles winning for Screenplay for Citizen Kane. It's often been a trend to give screenplay awards to artistic and creative types. Tarantino also won Screenplay for Pulp Fiction.
I did think Infinity War was genuinely cheated out of the Oscar for Special Effects. It lost to First Man and not a bad movie but come on, the greatest CGI character and best fusion of live-action actor with CGI and visual effects work, with Brolin and Thanos deserved to win. And it's really strange that an arty or award bait movie like First Man wins in a category that's usually scraps thrown to blockbusters.

Third Oscar: Best Original Score.
