Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Related to Captain Marvel, Zachary Levi, the star of “Shazam!” is calling out people for using Shazam! to attack the other film and Brie Larson
.
Shazam! looks awesome and amazing and I'm glad he made that statement, but I believe the majority of those defamatory reviews aren't due to competition with DC/Shazam, but rather because of what Brie Larson said, which many people took either out of context (she wasn't calling for less white guys, but more diverse critics) or people who don't care about context and will hate on anything that points out any sort of white/male privilege.
It was removed for some reason, because they stated the movie hadn't come out yet so it didn't need a YMMV page yet. (Why other movies that haven't come out have YMMV pages wasn't explained.)

Okay, to actually explain what happened, the page was cut around the time the first trailer dropped. People were adding Narm entries and complaining about Brie Larson's acting because she wasn't smiling. This kept happening and it kept being brought up on ATT multiple times in short succession.
The mods decided it wasn't worth keeping a YMMV page that attracted so much complaining in such a short time before the film was even out yet, so it was cut. Hopefully we won't have too many problems once the film is released.

Suicide Squad got the makeup one, and it genuinely earned it. Makeup ain't no joke.

Marvel has normally spaced their movies apart a bit, but both Black Panther and Captain Marvel were loaded up just a couple months before much-hyped Avengers movies. Not coincidentally, both BP and CM are the only two MCU movies I've gone to the trouble of buying advance tickets for, to make sure I can see them before the next Avengers movie comes out, since there's no way to get them on disc or streaming before then.
Wouldn't surprise me if this was done to let BP/CM piggyback off Avengers to ensure big box offices for movies they have a PR stake in seeing do well.
Hope the trend does not continue, I don't always have the spare time to catch a movie in theaters so catching two in a row like this is sometimes hard to arrange.
Technically not MCU, but Spiderverse won animated.
