Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Does anyone want to bet on Black Panther winning Best Picture?
Join the Five-Man Band cleanup project!I thought so. Speculative Fiction movies rarely win.

Join the Five-Man Band cleanup project! For Best Picture, there hasn't even been a nomination so far...and Marvel Studios specifically has zero wins so far in ALL categories, though that is partly because it usually doesn't bother with a campaign.
Thus said, in the animated category, there have been two Superhero movies which won so far, and Into the Spider-verse will most likely be the third.
The latter of which was not deserved, even though I like that movie a lot.
Because the C Gi on Black Panther looks like ass.
I think this is the one criticism everyone agrees on, fans and detractors alike.
Eh, I've been around long enough and seen enough early CGI that my standards are pretty low.
That and IMHO all cgi kind of pales in comparison to good practical effects ala The Thing (1982).
Disgusted, but not surprisedNot only is the CGI a glaring weakness of Black Panther, it wasn't even nominated in this category for the academy award, and outside of the BAFTA, Infinity War pretty much swept this category, including the award from the guild itself. And they should know what is good special effects and what isn't, right?
Well, if you spend enough money, the CG is going to be pretty good, and Infinity War had all the money. The biggest exception that I can think of is the rather hilarious floating head of Bruce Banner in the Hulkbuster armor.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"

Hela comes to the BAFTAs red carpet wearing the Infinity Stones
.
It looks like Thanos did try to impress her but that quickly backfired.
