Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I'm Jewish, and I would hate if Magneto was changed to not be. He's one of the most famous villains/anti-heroes in all of Marvel, and his popularity comes from his depth and what he represents.
Kitty Pryde should still have a role as a heroic Jew, maybe the two could even have a talk about Judaism and the Holocaust. You could draw some great parallels between the two, one young, modern, and optimistic, the other old, bitter, and cynical.
@Forenperser: I meant neither, what I meant is if the issue is with the lack of Jewish representation in Marvel Movies you don't need to always use Magneto for that, as he is starting to outstay his welcome a bit, and instead you can simply pick Jewish character who are more obscure and put them in a movie or team and give it a popularity boost.
That's how the MCU started and is how I wish them to keep going: forget Wolverine, Magneto, Charles and Mystique, center the story on Shadowcat, Nightcrawler, Cyclops and for God's sake make Jean Gray do something other than be a prize Logan and Scott keep fighting over. No more love triangles, I believe I speak for everyone on that.
And give Nightcrawler a movie. I'm serious, they took Daredevil away from me, and I need a substitute.

Since we were talking about Carol a few pages back and now Magneto: Anybody remeber this
◊ incredibly tasteless piece, where Carol basically compared Magneto (A holocaust survivor, as pretty much everyone in that verse knows?!) to a Godwins Law invoking internet troll?
Really, what were they thinking?
Nightcrawler would be a bizarre choice for solo movie I don't see the MCU making. I love the character but he's a little short on solo material or a rogues gallery.
I can't imagine the weapons-grade Catholicism would go too well in a MCU movie either.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."Then you hit the brick wall of Catholicism being a cornerstone of Nightcrawler's character.

I remember that. Axis, right? Well, Rick Remender was a pretty horrid X-Writer in general. Remember that terrible speech Alex held about being a mutant?

Certified: 48.0% West Asian, 6.5% South Asian, 15.8% North/West European, 15.7% English, 7.4% Balkan, 6.6% ScandinavianThere’s also Inhumans vs X-Men where despite the Terrigsn Gas wiping out out Mutants through a giant gas death cloud, we were still supposed to root for the Inhumans.
The moment Magneto said “I will not let my people be gassed again”, the Inhumans lost what little minuscule ground they had.
Indeed it’s Axis & a shame too because his X-Force was pretty dope.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I'd hope they'd have gotten rid of his becoming a priest being an Azazel plot but they already appear to have decoupled the two characters and their relationship with Mystique in the Fox films, somewhat. It's probably too entrenched in these characters at this point for them to bring back the idea of Kurt being Destiny's son.
I was hoping nobody would bring up Inhumans vs X-Men xD Yeah. That was totally, totally disgusting. The whole effort of trying to replace the mutants with the Inhumans in general was, really.
The Inhumans are a bunch of slave-holding, elitist eugenetics. Who the hell thought it was a good idea to have them replace Marvel's allegory to racism, homophobia, anti-semitism etc?
Certified: 48.0% West Asian, 6.5% South Asian, 15.8% North/West European, 15.7% English, 7.4% Balkan, 6.6% ScandinavianThe Inhumans were only really a thing in Agents of SHIELD which the films happily ignore.
Claremont Nightcrawler was a swashbuckling adventurer that had faith, but wasn’t defined by it. That would be great for an ongoing series of film or TV, this blue globetrotting adventurer helping out the X-Men and fighting bad guys. (Wasn’t that Excalibur’s premise in the 90’s?) There’s plenty you can do to make him different from Matt.

This is also totally anecdotal on my part, but every jewish person I've spoken to (including ones on this forum) have said that they preferred Magneto to be jewish and just work within that to iron out potential problems.
