Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Yeah, they aren't related in the comics, so they probably aren't related in the MCU.
Fun fact: in the comics, Christopher Priest created Everett K. Ross to be similar to Chandler Bing. Priest was afraid that fans wouldn't like Black Panther if it was "too black," so he had a white narrator (Ross) telling the story of T'Challa in a funny, mixed up way.
I understand why they didn't go that way with the movie, but it still would have been hilarious to see a pants-less Ross trying and failing to kill a giant rat in his bathroom
or sitting down on the couch with Mephisto or hurriedly trying to take off the pants Mephisto provided him and realizing he can't ("Oh sweet lord. I just sold my soul for a pair of pants. I am wearing the Devil's Pants..."
◊) or saying "Don't start none, won't be none."

I kind of had a thing for the interaction between Ross and M'Baku.
Btw, love the reaction of the cast during the SAG awards...it is obvious that they really didn't expect to win after a long stretch of "well, it was a honour to be nominated". But once you think about it, it is obvious. If the Academy had a "best ensemble" award, too, Black Panther most likely would be the forerunner.

Trailer for season 6 of Agents of Shield...don't watch if you are spoilerphobe, it reveals more than I would have expected.

Eh, even that I'm not sure about, I'd put that to Blac Kk Klansman. Lee is just that tiny bit better at directing his cast than Coogler. Which, given Lee has been directing movies for slightly less time than Coogler has been alive, is absolutely no shame.
Also, can someone explain to me why Feige is listed as diector for Black Panther by the oscars, and not Ryan Coogler?
Huh one thing to look forward too when Ms. Marvel becomes a thing is when people absolutely lose their shit over her.
Like I'm on a site, I go to her comic, look down at the comments section, & you would not believe the mess it is there.
Like people try to justify themselves saying "I'm not racist, I'm just calling out a bad & overhyped comic as I see it" but no, no there's a certain level of venom in their words that make it clear the whole thing is racial based.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."
x3 - I’ve bought that line of reasoning once, for America Chavez (which I utterly despise as a comic and character). Otherwise, if it’s that bad, why is the racial issue constantly being bought up by naysayers? Go in on the other aspects of the criticism if they’re there.
I’d rather the actress had peace so when people have a genuine reason to rip into someone’s role, they aren’t lumped in as whiners and perpetuating the vicious cycle. Let them be.

Anything even remotely racial or political will rile them.
I'm reading a Deathstroke comic. Slade is hired by an African warlord, they have a small conversation involving American intervention because one of Slade's assignments is to prevent America from intruding on said warlord's activities, & while they are looking on a pile of corpses dumped into a pit, the warlord smugly says "Heh nothing wrong with what I'm doing. They are Muslims, I'm Christian, its alright" & some people are already calling "SJW shit" or whatever on that.
Keep in mind the author of that comic Christopher Priest, a black man is no stranger to adding such elements to his works. Its just whining for the sake of whining really.
Like if your gonna critique something, don't sound so Goddamn pissed about it. Emotions aren't your friend in such cases.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I remember the meltdown when she was first announced. I look forward to the MCU not giving a fuck about those people when it's time to introduce her in the films.
Hell, one of the most vivid reactions like this I remember is when the US Postal service did something as simple as adding Eid holiday stamp during the "Freedom Fries" era and racists absolutely lost their minds. It was a perfect example of how completely ridiculous that kind of thinking is.

I know. “I don’t wanna sound racist but...” just feels like something racial irks them for reasons. It’s stupid. If you’re going to complain about a character, there has to be something outside of that to complain about, something that eclipses and ignores the racial element. Otherwise I feel like I’m within my rights to side-eye the racial element.

Ooooh that's a tricky one because Priest is the kind of guy who updates himself on the characters entire history.
Because the comic isn't just about Deathstroke, its about Deathstroke's entire family. It deals with his dysfunctions, & stars Jericho & Rose with the death of his first-born Grant as a phantom haunting the family, as well as including his supporting cast like his partner Wintergreen & his bitch ex-wife Adeline.
Like did you know that Slade Wilson was actually blonde? I certainly did not until I read it.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."...how is his ex wife a bitch for being rightfully angry at him for getting their son's throat torn out?
One Strip! One Strip!![]()
Because justified grievances with him aside, she actually is a terrible person just like him.
Aside from treating Rose badly for being Slade's bastard, she's also a CIA agent with a list of horrible atrocities under her belt, & when Slade tried to genuinely go good & set up a hero organization, she attempted to sabotage him for no other reason than just spite.
At one point Slade got access to vital intel on her & it pretty much could have ruined her. He destroyed it though because in spite of everything he still loves her.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."

The last one, unless something happened recently in the comics they're not related there either.
