Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I'm watching regardless, but I'm going to be considerably disappointed if the part where they beat up Thanos doesn't remind me of the last epic moments of the final boss
from Kirby Star Allies.
Thor blasts Thanos with lightning. Tony unloads the Uni-Beam. Hulk elbow drops on him. Captain Marvel unleashes all of her stored energy. Rocket Raccoon hits him with the biggest explosive super-weapon he's got. Groot grows huge and slams him. Etc. etc.
And then there's a quiet moment. Thanos has fended off all of these attacks, he's hurting but he's standing. The Avengers regroup for another go, Thanos starts talking, the standoff turns tense.
And then an arrow strikes Thanos in the back of the neck. He plucks it out, looks at Hawkeye like, "Really?" Hawkeye shrugs.
And then the dogpile resumes.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Thanos appears to be Immune to Bullets with the Infinity Gauntlet. Without it... who knows? We never see it attempted.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Thanos is putting forth minimum effort, like he always does, and is genuinely startled to find one of these Puny Earthlings who is able to resist him for even a second. There is never the slightest idea that Cap can stop him.
The relative efficacy of different attack methods has always been schizophrenic in superhero stories. Why does a punch hurt more than a missile, an energy blast more than a bullet? Why do so many fights between super-powered characters come down to fisticuffs when they have much stronger weapons at their disposal? It's all about plot and drama.

The only real way that would be funny is if Loki was around to witness that and laugh his ass off.
It won't. It didn't get a nomination in any of the "big" categories. This nomination is more a nod to its cultural importance than anything else.
It has a good chance in best production design and it really, really should win best costume, though.
And Infinity War better gets best visual effects. And Into the Spiderverse best animated picture.
It wasn’t overlooked; Black Panther is a far better film. And it’s a little galling to have someone immediately start belittling Black Panther after it got all those nominations.
I’m actually pretty annoyed Ryan Coogler got snubbed for a Best Director nomination. And zero acting nominations? Not even for Michael B. Jordan or Danai Gurira? Rude.

Given how they've been hyping her up, I'd imagine that Captain Marvel might be a threat to him as well. Not necessarily to the point of beating him solo, but perhaps enough to hurt him/keep him busy for awhile.
