Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

@ Tobias Well some people might also think that Tim Burton's Batman invented the Superhero movies for DC with actual thought and budget behind it and Batman Begins only revived it, after it was murdered by the Schumacher films.
Certified: 48.0% West Asian, 6.5% South Asian, 15.8% North/West European, 15.7% English, 7.4% Balkan, 6.6% ScandinavianYeah that`s a little ridiculous. I mean you might call them over-the-top, but there went a lot of thought and effort into them. The yare definitely not comparable to trainwrecks like Catwoman.
And as for Marvel: I think X-Men (2000) was another good contender before Spider-Man (2002) to have rehabilitated the genre?

Certified: 48.0% West Asian, 6.5% South Asian, 15.8% North/West European, 15.7% English, 7.4% Balkan, 6.6% ScandinavianYeah the complexity of the chararter in batman return is pretty damn good, also one can said many superhero movies are over expensive B movies anyway.
Now, I call "phase 0" to the first spiderman movie because it prove special efect were capable of replicating super hero feats(which was the main hindrance of plenty of superhero movies) once that happen everything just kinda follow.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"Whenever I think of old Batman movies, I'm just reminded of the fact that excluding the Adam West-era, Batman kills someone in every one of his movies.
I think "Justice League" might be the first live-action film since West to feature the character in which Bats doesn't kill at least one person. Though I might be misremembering.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Parademons don't count as people. They've been trying to form a civil rights movement but it keeps getting murdered by Darkseid.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Huh, sure enough. I thought he killed Bane but that was actually Robin and Batgirl.
Okay. I guess "Batman and Robin" wins most faithful to the source material on this point.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.My biggest problem with the Burton films, well aside from Batman killing so many people that it'd make The Punisher blush, is how utterly uninterested Burton clearly was in exploring Batman as a character. I mean Joker got more screentime in Batman 89 than Batman did, and Batman was like a glorified guest star in Batman Returns.
It's why I prefer Batman Forever actually. Does it have A LOT of flaws, sure. But it at least TRIES to explore Batman's character and psychology, even if the results are mixed.
Also Burton's films, Returns especially, are just as "campy" as that movie was, they're just more grotesque about it.
Returns has a scene where a malformed Danny DeVito is given a Viking Funeral by sentient penguins in an ice cave.
Its claims to being a serious and complex film are overstated.

he does explore batman but not as whole, but rather bruce wayne, the first explore is tragedy and the second the face he have to hide, as second movie have "people hinding behind a mask" as theme.
And while camping, the movie is also VERY dark, it got one of the darkest interpretation of catwoman and pinguin(to the point they look more like harley queen and Killer croc respectly).
