Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

The redhead.
Some of the moves he's using on screen do look suspiciously like Dr. Strange's brand of magic, which would make sense if all sorcerers are trained in the same arts.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Or he took video of Strange's fight in New York and is simply copying him. It would be interesting if we got an unexpected cameo from Doctor Strange, where they show him footage of Mysterio and he's like, "Nope, that's all wrong, he's not a wizard, you guys." After all, isn't one of the Sanctums in Europe?
To be clear, "OG!MJ" = "Original gangster Mary Jane", and Original Gangster is a Americanism that means "the original" of something cool.
This has been Gaon with linguistics report. Back to you, Jack.
@Falrinn: I've considered if the "Fake Ultimate Hero Mysterio" twist isn't too obvious and I just started wondering if the second layer isn't that Nick Fury himself is also an illusion.
I also really hope the climax involves the iconic "Mysterio makes Spidey think he's the size of an actual spider
◊" moment, Mysterio's second finest hour after Guardian Devil.
The Sanctums are apparently in New York, London and Hong Kong, according to Wong, but the London sanctum was destroyed during the events of the film. Could be fun to cameo Doctor Strange rebuilding it though.

"All you Fascists bound to lose."Right, so...
If the elemental villains are real, probably one person. If they're illusions, I could buy them being the assorted minor villains - Sandman's been done and probably isn't big enough for a repeat, Hydro Man couldn't really be a main villain, etc.
Slightly cynical (and weirdly minor) prediction; Mysterio's fishbowl helmet will be present for long enough that it can be called a comics-authentic costume, but he'll go without it for a good period of time for actor-face recognition and avoiding the fact that it is kind of silly
I actually really like heroes with a wide group of secret keepers but I wasn't expecting them to go that way with May
Given that status quo seems pretty intact, I guess this is an interquel. I suppose they could be hiding it really damn well but unless the resolution to Endgame is completely resetting, they'd really have to acknowledge it.
I can picture the film ending with Spidey on a school bus back home, when his spider-sense tingles and he turns around, seeing one of Thanos's warships in the sky and things go full circle.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."This is my guess as well. It's really hard to see how Infinity War could not be acknowledged in-universe unless Endgame pushes the Reset Button in an absolute sense.
The other issue is timing: if Peter is a sophomore in Homecoming, he's a senior during Infinity War, and the summer after that would be post-graduation, so there most definitely would not be a sponsored school trip.
Eh, it might be after they get back, but it wouldn't be part of the same trip. This could be FFH's stinger, though, which would be great.
Also, now we know where Nick Fury's been hiding out since Winter Soldier.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"
Citation? The timeline is irreconcilable.
Well, they've committed to Michelle as MJ. Diversity is always good, though I'm also going to miss classic MJ, especially with how normal Marvel seems determined to do her dirty.
But hey, Michelle is crazy fun because of how much of a troll she is, so I can dig it.
One Strip! One Strip!I recall reading about someone in the movie who may or may not be Jessica Drew. Was that ever debunked?
This song needs more love.Nah, if I remember correctly, it was the other way around, the news about the "call me MJ" scene leaked through my least favourite "scooper" and then the whole discussion around the notion started.
Btw, what kind of "school trip" is that? Venedig and London? Could they go to two places FURTHER apart within Europe?

Infinity War canonically takes place two years after Civil War. We know this with absolute certainty, because Ant-Man and the Wasp shows Scott about to finish serving his two-year home confinement sentence and the end-credits sequence literally coincides with the Snap.
Homecoming starts immediately after Civil War, then montages over a couple of months before hitting its narrative stride. It is explicitly Peter's sophomore year.
Ergo, IW happens in his senior year. There's no way around these facts. Well, it might happen at the tail end of his junior year, but that's a stretch, since Peter must have been in school when Tony recruited him for CW.
Edited to ask a question: do we know canonically what time of year Civil War and Infinity War happen in? If we assume that they coincide with the theatrical release dates, then you run into a bit of a problem, because Peter couldn't spend "a few months" after returning from CW without overlapping with his summer break.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"There is an official timeline now (which still has some logical holes)

Blargh. That timeline still doesn't work if Infinity War happens in 2017, because it contradicts the "two years" thing from Ant-Man and the Wasp.
Okay, let's work it out.
- Civil War happens in 2016. It may or may not happen during the school year.
- Homecoming follows on from Civil War. Pete returns to school after his "internship trip" with Stark, and summer break doesn't happen during the film. He's a sophomore, and 15 years old. So it probably picks up at the beginning of his school year. The big event is the Homecoming dance, and that typically happens in September or October, so that puts Civil War during the spring or summer, depending on how long Peter was away. (He'd have missed an awful lot of class if it was the spring and someone would have noticed.)
- Infinity War happens in 2017. Peter is in school because he's on a field trip. It's not winter because people aren't wearing heavy outerwear. So candidates are spring 2017 and fall 2017. If the former, he'd be concluding his sophomore year, and if the latter, he'd be starting his junior year.
- Ant-Man and the Wasp happens near the end of Scott Lang's two year home confinement sentence after the events of Civil War. The Snap happens at the very end, right after he's served his time and resumed his career as bug boy. There is no way to reconcile this with the above, unless "two years" is an exaggeration and it's more like 16 months with some creative rounding.
Far from Home takes place on a summer break, during Peter's high school years. So it either takes place in the summer of 2017, with IW happening in the fall, or in the summer of 2018, post-Endgame, in a world where nobody seems to be traumatized by half of the population disappearing (and then presumably reappearing).
