Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

The Chitauri would have caused slightly more harm in the long run, so the Avengers collectively get a pass for that.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"> He caused property damage in the Avengers and didn't go into hiding then.
It possible as Hulk he didn't really notice at first but over time as Bruce he began to see all destruction Hulk caused,he has almost no control over the Hulk,so he can't stop Hulk from the destroying buildings or people
Taking the decision to leave Earth altogether is understandable one if he thinks Hulk is too reckless
have a listen and have a link to my discord serverWhich segues neatly into the portrayal of Hulk in Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Infinity War. It's funny how he's had the most interesting arcs in other characters' movies. Makes you wonder if Hulk really needs standalone films.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"In the hands of the right director a Hulk centred movie could be amazing,it's just the destructive nature of the Hulk makes great action sequences and popcorn moments ,quieter moments are drowned out altogether leaving no room to critically exmaine the Hulk or build up his character so he's more then a mindless monster who occasionally takes over Bruce
have a listen and have a link to my discord serverI'm in the camp that says the Hulk definitely killed people in Johannesburg but I do want to note that Johannesburg wasn't the only factor in the decision to leave. Banner was uncomfortable being an Avenger even when he was smashing literal Nazis. "The Gates of Hel are filled with the screams of his victims," and all that.
When he first went on the run from Ross and his men, Banner wanted one thing: for the Hulk to never be used as a weapon. He fought very hard to keep the Hulk from becoming Ross's pet Super-Soldier.
When S.H.I.E.L.D. found him and brought him in, he was initially going to refuse. Because he believed that the Hulk should never be used as a weapon. It was only when they assured him that they wanted Banner's intellect and not the Hulk's might that he reluctantly agreed to work for their project.
The Avengers straight-up use the Hulk as a weapon. They even have a cute codename for pulling the Hulk's trigger on an enemy: Code Green. He's their pet WMD, just like Ross wanted years ago. He tolerated it at first because of the importance of their work, but it grew to chafe on him. By "Age of Ultron", he is miserable, because his worst fears have come to pass.
The only real solace he has is his relationship with Nat. And then she betrays his trust to pull the Hulk's trigger and unload his reluctant WMD on an enemy without his consent. Because the Hulk is a weapon, and that is the only value Banner has to the Avengers.
The Hulk didn't leave just because he felt bad about casualties in Johannesburg. He ragequit the Avengers because he was very adamant, years ago, that the Hulk is not supposed to be used like this and not one of them listened - for a time, not even Banner. Whatever mission they're on today was always too important.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.The movie frames Johannesburg in a way to make clear that no, nobody died. It's a little bit odd to insist otherwise.
Anyway, Bruce left also because Natasha betrayed him..which is one of the various reasons I dislike the romance so much, because I think the moment would have been stronger if Natasha had done it as a fellow Avenger, not as a love interest.
Even in Infinity War, Tony tries to pull Hulk's trigger on Cull Obsidian. It's the first time Hulk has outright refused to be used this way, and this is indeed his character growth. The funny thing is that Banner has switched roles and keeps trying to get Hulk to come out, because he knows the stakes call for it.
- Tony: Banner, you want a piece of this?
Bruce: No, but when do I ever get what I want?

This, in part, sets up directly into the current Banner/Hulk conflict - Banner is a terrible, controlling people-user when it comes to the Hulk, whose only freedom is when he's being used as a weapon and taking life threatening hits. Hulk wanted to fight Surtur because it was fun, but outside of that, Thor was only ever trying to use Hulk, and Banner wanted to lock Hulk back in the trunk despite Hulk having his own friend(s) and being liked for being fun on Sakaar, not feared and used for killing people.
I'm not gonna rewatch Age of Ultron, but did Tony send in the Iron Legion to prevent deaths? Because even then, that only makes the "no one died" unlikely. Without that, it's just not believable.

Oh, shit, is that official now? WATCHED!
...
Okay, I'm going to have to watch it again about a million times, but first impressions (spoiler-tagged).
- Aunt May is promoting Spider-Man. So I guess she took it well.
- The (obvious) villain looks like Sandman, although he seems to be able to take the form of anything he touches, so a new version.
- Nick Fury shows up!
- Some weird wizard dude with green power... Mysterio? He's presented as a good guy, but if it is actually Mysterio, that won't last.
- Peter and MJ ship tease!
- Aunt May and Happy ship tease!
- New Spider-Man theme!!!!!
- July 5 release date.
Edit: me gud wit markup
There's no obvious time reference on the trailer but since Peter is still in school, I'm going to call this an interquel.

The movie pretty much shows the whole fight with a huge emphasis on Ironman protecting everyone who gets in the way of the fight...and then, when he can't get him out of the city he drops him into a building under construction which is specifically empty while ordering Jarvis to buy it.

@Fighteer: I think the villains in question are a collection of minor elemental Marvel villains, Sandman, Hydro-Man
and Molten Man
from what I've seen in the trailer. But I'm going to stand by my theory that Mysterio is a Fake Ultimate Hero and all of the aforementioned elemental-men are, in fact, illusions created by him so he can pretend to be the hero.

"All you Fascists bound to lose."We see a dude made of rubble, then fire, and then water... seems unlikely that it's three different characters. I don't know jack about Hydro Man, but it could well be a version of Sandman with the ability to take on the properties of different substances.
Or it could be what you suggest: Mysterio creating fake monsters for himself to defeat to establish his "heroism".

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"

It's possible that the people the soldiers the Hulk killed were people Hulk wanted to hurt. They were attacking him, after all.
Disgusted, but not surprised
