Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Oh please, not even Taika Waititi could pull off that kind of miracle.
Maybe I missed this part in Ragnarok but it didn't seem like Odin "gave" anything.
Seems like he just let Loki run things while enjoying his final PDL's on Earth.
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!Near as I can tell, Odin died from Actor-Doesn't-Wanna-Be-Here-Anymore Syndrome. No further explanation is really given.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Sure, there's that. But if you put people in a mystically magical, awestruck, emotionally suggestible state, then you can just metaphor your way out of a potentially complicated situation and not have to think about it. A physical body means palpable grief, and Ragnarok wants to skip past that, as well as letting Sir Anthony off the hook. I don't blame them, and I think it works as well as it needs to.
"Even though he tried to change, his past imperialism still continued to haunt him"
Is hard to said that considering he still mantain the position of asgard as top dog which it got by said imperalism, is bad fathering that it got him more that is colonisnt past.
In fact is wife died by malekith and the dark elves because he didnt coudnt extremine all of them.
"All in all life became pretty shitty for him. "
Considering how long he have live "all is life" is and exagerantion
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"
I will said the same, but it make ask why they bother with the theme after all since half of the movie is just funny thor and hulk hijinkis.
is funny how antman and the waps is the most honest movie about being a fun and inconsequencial romp
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"Remember that time in the first movie when Odin had a heart attack and died sort of because when he runs out of juice he just Odinsleeps to get it back?
Turning to pixie dust tells the audience that he's not going to wake up from his resurrective super-nap in the third act and go fix everything. He's dead dead for realsies.

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.I finally watched Spider-Man: Homecoming tonight. Rather than paying $10 to buy the damn thing online (thanks Sony, for being greedy assholes!), I rented the DVD from my public library. It feels like I beat the system somehow, even though it's in an utterly mundane way.
This catches me up on the MCU, with the exception of the Hulk film(s), which I gather I didn't miss out on.
I don't think I need to tag spoilers, so let's just list impressions.
- I love how they totally gloss over his origin story because, if you don't know it by now, you're a lost cause. Just an oblique reference to getting bitten by a spider.
- Not as cringey as I was afraid it would be. Let's face it, I have awkward enough memories of my own high school days without having to watch someone else's. Fortunately they didn't go full on into Peter Parker humiliation mode.
- Nice tease of Liz as the love interest, only to set up MJ for later.
- I have to side with Peter on the Poor Communication Kills aspect of the film. If Tony had even the slightest understanding of his motivations, he wouldn't have left him hanging to mess up, but would have kept him in the loop. That said, I don't think that the FBI guys were going to be enough to stop Vulture's little deal on the ferry.
- I love how the film ties into the rest of the MCU with the "street level" view of the people affected by it. DC could learn a thing or two from this. (*cough* BvS)
- Vulture's a good villain. I like how his motivations are clearly established, he's got a family and interests to protect, just like Peter. The third act twist is great — I should have seen it coming and didn't in the slightest. Well played. The mid-credits scene ties the whole thing off: he does have honor.
Final bits spoiler tagged, just in case.
- So, what, Tony actually does expect Peter to join the Avengers on the spot? Is he really that full of himself?
- Aunt May knows his secret at the end. That's pretty unambiguous. That's a huge departure from the original franchise and I'm quite curious how it'll play out in the next film.
I keep seeing noise about the Far from Home trailer, but everything I can find online says it's unofficial and leaked. I really don't want to watch it like that...

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Well yeah, but damn. I like Tony Stark as a character, but it's really hard to like Tony Stark as a person. I really hope we get some closure on his character in Endgame, assuming that's the last we'll see of him.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Probably also "We have exactly two other members. One of them is still slowly recovering from permanent injuries and the other's been in a depressed state ever since he screwed up and his girlfriend was jailed, so, beggars can't be choosers."

I guess so. Still, that's a huge about-face for someone who was totally freaked out about recruiting a 15-year old a few days previously. It makes the early part of Infinity War a little bit weird continuity-wise, too. I got the impression that Stark didn't want to offer Parker the Avenger position, but I guess it was a deliberate bit of misdirection in case anyone hadn't watched Homecoming...
Something else occurred to me about the Vulture. Is this the first MCU villain who's been sent to prison at the end of the film? I think it may be. DC does that sort of thing all the time, and it's a grand tradition for the Spider-Man comics, but it's a rarity in the Marvel franchise films.
