Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I heard there was a tie-in novel (that's officially non-canon, but isn't explicitly so) that said that the Other was actually the one in charge of the Chitauri. He was kind of their "hive king", so to speak. So, I guess when Ronan killed him, there was really no one left in charge of the Chitauri and Thanos abandoned them.
Another thing about the Chitauri, I know that in The Ultimates (where they debuted), they were actually shapeshifters similar to the Skrulls. As a hypothetical, do you think this would've been an interesting ability to implement when they appeared in The Avengers (2012), or would it have been unnecessary for the story they were trying to tell?
Completely unnecessary, especially since we are already getting Skrulls in the MCU with Captain Marvel. For The Avengers, they wanted a race of, well, mooks and so Whedon pretty much plucked out the name "Chituari," even though they bore no resemblence to the comic book Chitauri.
Ironically enough, later on, the MCU Chitauri were imported into the 616 universe.
Pretty heavily. Just on top of my head, they started a Defenders comic series with the TV Defenders, they imported the Agents of SHIELD from the show, they introduced "Nick Fury Jr." to have a black Nick in the 616 verse, they brought back Thanos following the 2012 stinger, they changed the colors of the Infinity stones to match their MCU counterparts.....and that's just what I remember right now, there is tons of more stuff.

However, I Do Concede That I Initially Clicked Because Girl."

Sure, but he has been like omni-present since 2012. And not always in a good way. Writers who are not Jim Starlin tend to mess him up. And sadly, the man has left Marvel by now.

They were buying time against an unending horde, searching on a wing and a prayer for some way to shut down the portal before they could be overwhelmed.
The Avengers much more definitively destroyed the Black Order's army than the Chitauri's.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.The whole point of my post is about the intent behind the fights.
Yes, both are last stands in text.
But Avengers' is triumphant because the team came together, and yeah, it will cost them, there's even a darkest hour towards the end to pull heartstrings, but they'll end victorious.
You are correct that the Infinity War last stand is a curbstomp of Thanos' armies, but it's there to build a false sense of temporary victory, because Thanos himself is still coming.
They tease us again in the Thanos fight with Thor using Stomrbreaker, but then snuff the audience's hope.
So both movies last stands have very different emotional impact. In part because they were made by different people, but in part because both have very different intents as far as audience reaction is concerned.

.......What?.
