Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Not really.
It's just something many people like to blow out of proportion because they saw some out-of-context scans of the very early Mark Millar Ultimates run.
Hell, I'd even go as far and say that certain elements from the UU work far better than the ones from the classic 616 verse.

Don't get me wrong, Sam Jackson is awesome, but I really like Classic Nick too. I think Clint Eastwood would have been a perfect pick for a white Nick. [1]

(Plus, this whole Nick Fury Jr. thing in the 616 verse is just soooo mind-boggling stupid)

Sure, he was a colossal dickhead at first, but he matured into a genuine hero over time.
This development along with the flaws was something that made him much more tangible and believable to me than the classic Cap, who always feels too perfect and downright sue'ish to me.

People generally hated the Ultimate line for including shit like Wasp getting cannabilized by the Blob & Hank biting his head off in retilation.
Though that was around the immense decline.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Oh, if only you knew how literal that was.
From the wiki of Monica Chang, a character from the Ultimate Universe:

Definitely not Eastwood. Neeson could work, but after seeing Creed II and Aquaman recently, I think if regular Fury had to be in, I might suggest Dolph Lundgren.
There's also Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver's incestuous relationship, Hulk eating people, Wolverine trying to sleep with teenage Mary Jane, Hank Pym being a violent wife beater (and no, not a "I accidentally slap her once in the middle of a mental breakdown" but full-on continuous spousal abuse), Cap's "do you think that this symbol on my head stands for France" line (which makes ZERO sense for Cap to say actually and was so stupid that even Ed Brubaker countered it during his 616 Cap run), Iron Man/Black Widow sex tape, etc.
The Ultimate Universe had some really messed up crap in it throughout.
Not wanting to imply you can't, of course, but personally, it was just too much, too early to swallow.
I got what Millar was trying to do, but it was a touch too much.
Netflix Changed Its Description of 'Infinity War' After Backlash From Fans
In short: The original description had it that Thanos was an inter-galactic sociopath, but Draco in Leather Pants ensued, so Netflix caved and changed it.

Worth pointing out that part of Tony's behavior in IW is simply because he's completely and utterly terrified.
Downey really nails it: the way he constantly rubs his hands, cracking voice, often getting distracted. As someone who suffers from periodic anxiety attacks, I can say his portrayal of someone trying his hardest not to give into panic is spot-on.
