Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

When M'baku was announced, several people commented that the character could be done well because he was a lot more than just a black guy dressed as a gorilla due the fact many writers over the year added depth and nuance to him, but it's kind of funny how that was drowned out every time by the terror of "BUT HOW CAN THEY POSSIBLY FIX THIS?".
And then, after the movie came out, people hail the movie for completely reinventing the character of M'baku to differentiate from his comics's racist self. All the credit to the world to Coogler, but he didn't exactly invent the idea that M'baku is just a Wakandan traditionalist in contrast with T'challa's more progressive stance and that despite this, he's in truth just as patriotic and protective of the Wakandan nation as T'challa is. He just took it to a whole new level.
As I said, credit where credit is due: Coogler raised the bar by doing some excellent Adaptation Distillation on M'baku, but part of the genius here was actually doing his job and looking at the character's history past his name and working with it unlike other MCU projects which just decide to drop any character with a mildly challenging history (and probably make them a white person).
"All you Fascists bound to lose."A nitpick, because it was pointed out to me previously: Ben Kingsley, light-skinned though he is, is half-Gujarati. His birth name is Krishna Pandit Bhanji. That said, he's still not Chinese and the character's definitely not really the Mandarin. Not disputing the rest of the argument.

I'd put Gwen Stacy in that category too. It's been the case for a very long time that the only reason anyone cared about this character is because she died. Her death became more famous and a subject of more discussion than her life ever was.
A few great adaptational appearances and an awesome spinoff later (Spider-Gwen!), and people actually passionately care about Gwen now. She has legit fans now, rather than just being "that one girl Spidey loved but then she died and he moved on."
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.I mean, to be fair, I suppose a comeback was going to happen eventually.
There's an old saying: nobody, but nobody, ever stays dead in comics except for Gwen Stacy, Jason Todd, and Bucky Barnes.

No really, there is Uncle Ben and Magneto wife, those guys exist to die and stay dead.
To be fair, Gwen comeback was also because the adaptations make her too likiable, I mean she have moe chemestry with Peter in ONE movie that mary jane in three.

"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"Can corroborate. There's actually been at least two Uncle Ben Spider-Men.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.As long as she's not being played by Kirsten Dunst, MJ can be scary even without powers. She has a mean swing with a baseball bat.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Edge of Spider-Geddon #3 actually has a pretty great story about Spider-Ben and Petey
, a young Peter Parker who was bitten by a radioactive spider and then gave a blood transfusion to his uncle. They fought crime together and it was hella cute. Until Pete died, that is.
I just saw the battle of titan again and....I think we should applaud Starlord for thinking the battle plan, I mean is hard to see how much is his plan but is clear is line up to face thannos is his which considering they beat him is pretty damn impresive.
I mean that would make him so far the best strategist of MCU so far.

Yeah, with Mjolir being dust, asgard gone I will just give a weapon to a human and be done with it, on the why he should entrust a punny human is.....questionable now.
