Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

I don't know... I caught a bit of a smile at the end of that statement, like she realizes how ridiculous it is. But maybe she does take it at face value at the start. That's an interesting character development arc and, for bonus points, one that hasn't been done to death.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Yeah, if you've seen most of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., you'll know that the Kree are not nice people. Ronan's definitely the worst of the lot, but a vast majority of them don't give a crap about humanity.
Speaking of, I wonder how Ronan will be portrayed in this film. He's obviously going to start off on Carol's side, but will we see his Start of Darkness in this film or will he already be a genocidal prick? It'd be pretty weird if they start giving him some more sympathetic qualities considering he's one of the MCU's most sadistic villains.
I feel like they kinda composited Carol and Mar-Vell for the film, which is neat. What I'm getting from the trailer is that Carol got punched in the face with the Amnesia Stick and then the Kree made her Mar-Vell.
My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.We have a recently adopted rule about YMMV subpages for unreleased works. As in, we don't permit them.

I liked Venom. I think a lot of critics were too busy calling the movie "dumb" and "mindless" and laughing at it to realize two important things. One, that it was totally a dark rom-com, and a lot of those scenes were meant to be funny. Two, that it actually had a complete thematic throughline and character arc for the protagonist. Eddie starts out with an inability to control his impulses and he acts before he thinks, which ruins his career and romantic relationship. After getting saddled with an alien which is even more impulsive, Eddie learns to control his impulsiveness by the end, even teaching Venom how.
Personally, I also found Eddie extremely relatable, from a Millenial point of view. At the start of the film he's like a walking depression meme.

No one will ever be able to convince me that Venom is anything more than So Bad it's Good at best.
This song needs more love.I found Venom to be, while not exactly a brilliant film, still highly entertaining. It really understood and fully embraced the campy and over the top nature of the character from the comics, instead of trying to play everything super serious and grimdark, which was definitely a wise decision, as it wouldn't have worked if they went for the latter direction.
Anyways, as for the Captain Marvel trailer, I'm a bit meh on it. Mainly because of Larson's Dull Surprise acting throughout the whole thing. Like, I know you are playing a serious character, but you could at the very least try to emote just a little bit more than just a small smile at the best of times. She played Envy Adams and Molly Tracey, so I know she can do better and more expressive acting.
To be fair, it doesn't help when the actual writers for the Venom comics respond to questions like this:
Q: "What happens if Eddie gets an erection while in Venom form? Does it show on Venom's outer body, or does the symbiote cover it up?"
With answers like this:
A: "The symbiote takes care of it."
...Yeah, apparently Eddie and the Venom symbiote were a canonical married couple for years in the comics, and the Venom movie was the perfect thing to get people interested in the character and pairing enough to learn about it.

I tell you one thing, the Dramatic Irony in this movie is going to be great.
When she said "I'm part of a team of spacefaring heroes! We're the called the Kree" I actually burst out laughing. Poor Carol.
