Welcome to the main discussion thread for the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This pinned post is here to establish some basic guidelines. All of the Media Forum rules
still apply.
- This thread is for talking about the live-action films, TV shows, animated works, and related content that use the Marvel brand, currently owned by Disney.
- While mild digressions are okay, discussion of the comic books should go in this thread
. Extended digressions may be thumped as off-topic.
- Spoilers for new releases should not be discussed without spoiler tagging for at least two weeks. Rather, each title should have a dedicated thread where that sort of conversation is held. We can mention new releases in a general sense, but please be courteous to people who don't want to be spoiled.
If you're posting tagged spoilers, make sure that the film or series is clearly identified outside the spoiler tagging. People need to know what will be spoiled before they choose to read the post.

Naturally there is something like objectivity in film criticism. There is also a subjective element to it, but if it were 100% subjective, it wouldn't matter what you put on screen, there would be an audience for everything. It is frankly disrespectful towards the creators to act as if there isn't a certain level of skill needed to create a great movie.
Y'know, people are making half-joking theories that the cat is a Skrull, but the Skrulls do have the ability to change into animals in the comics. In fact, in their first appearance, Reed Richards was able to stop an invasion by hypnotizing the Skrulls into turning them into cows
. Yes, this did go the way
you think it does...
I don't understand why you're getting on my case so hard about not liking Doctor Strange. It was pretty clear from my original post that all those film evaluations were meant to be my personal opinion on the franchises including Captain Marvel. Your assumption that I meant it was objectively bad was all your own.
And this backhanded dig felt really unnecessary as well, considering I went into Doctor Strange optimistic and hoping some of the negative opinions towards it were just being unfair and overly focused on the racial aspects.

I can't wait till the skrulls do actually start appearing, you could have an entire film about a supposed secret skurll invasion and then at the end it's revealed to be all paranoia and then the move goers are left wondering what the hell is a skrull?
have a listen and have a link to my discord serverIt's all her performance from when she's a Kree soldier, brainwashed by having lightning fired into her brain. She should sound a little restrained, a little uncanny. I would like to hear a little more of her pre- and post-programming character, but I assume there are twist-based reasons why they're keeping that part of the movie under wraps.
Yeah she's pretty clearly still brainwashed to a degree. I don't know why that's going past some people and you can see from her actions in the flashbacks that she was less serious.

This song needs more love.I have all the hype for this movie.
I also appreciate that it's finally filling in a longstanding bit of a plot hole. Like, we sort of have Ant-Man and Captain America to fill the question of WTF Fury was talking about with his, "Do you think you're the only superhero?" speech to Iron Man.
But in a world that hasn't yet met Thor or been invaded by aliens or any of the wacky superhero stuff, it's a bit awkward that Fury was so passionate about the idea, "Nonono you don't understand, we NEED a team of god-punching super-beings to defend us. This has to be a thing. I will accept nothing less than an army of Hulks!"
Like. The world hadn't met Thor yet so what the hell were the Avengers supposed to fight? North Korea? That's been a bit of Early-Installment Weirdness for a long time, ever since the franchise decided that Iron Man suiting up heralded the birth of the superhero age.
Captain Marvel's poised to answer that question and be like, "No, there've been aliens here before. They've just never been here publicly like they were during the Battle of New York. Fury's actually seen his share of Thors."

My Tumblr. Currently side-by-side liveblogging Digimon Adventure, sub vs dub.Well, Ao S suggested that Shield knew more than standard people about this kind of stuff. But for the movies alone, yeah, this is actually filling an important blank. I mean, we KNOW that there were other Superheroes around before Ironman - Cap, Ant-man and the Hulk were all active before him - but it is a good thing to add a threat level to it.
x4
Yeah, my working assumption has been that there's always been weird stuff happening on the down low in the MCU that SHIELD has tried to contain with varying degrees of success.
But Captain Marvel just takes the concept to a whole new level. It looks like the climactic battle takes place in orbitnote , so that at least explains how the general public didn't notice the aburdly powerful superhero annihilating.
The only thing that might leak out is some rumors of a bizzare incident on a bus involving a woman in a strange outfit and a really hardhore grandma. But with no footage of the incident (this was an era before cell phone cameras after all), all they would be is rumors.

I wouldn’t say that her acting’s BAD, so much that it doesn’t quite fit my image of Carol, who generally sounds a bit more...butch, I think? At least in my head.
But as stated above, this isn’t properly Carol - hell, it looks like she isn’t even using that name. So maybe she’ll sound more to my liking in flashbacks and at the end of the movie.
Oh God! Natural light!

Well that trailer was a-ok. But nothing TOO special. Still looking forward to it.
